I've played around with the Little Phatty at music stores. Fun synth, dead simple to use and sounds great.

Waldorf Pulse kicks ass fattest saw and square ive ever heard.. it doesn't have sine but it has triangle but it doesnt sound like a normal triangle its grimey as fuck.

Fuck I wish I knew how to use it in cubase though, anything I record has sevre midi delay.. So far i've just been recording straight to wave and chopping note by note basically. And I've had it for like 4 years -_- ....I have filled all 64 user patches up with originals though.

Ask yourself honestly... do YOU think a Waldorf Pulse is worth getting?

I don't. It is always tempting to buy something to put in that rack space to look elite, but a cheap synth usually sounds no better (or is actually often worse) than software. Since Pulses have such a horrible interface, you will be doing most of your programming via a software editor anyway. You might as well just use a VST, in my oppinion. At least then you don't have to worry about recalling patches, latency, and so forth.

If I was to buy a cheap synth, it would be for its interface, so that I can learn the synth 100% and get basic sounds of out it fast. Synths that come to mind for this are the K-Station and MS2000R. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with cheap shit, because there is a good chance that software synths will sound as good or better.

PS. This is why I don't own any hardware synths. When I have enough money to buy a Voyager or Virus TI, that will change. The wallet of a uni student is too tight.
