This is one thing we can safely say that likes of Armin, Tiesto and other Pop Djs would never be able achieve. The difference is, Tong's radio shows focus on 'other' happenings in the dance industry. Whereas majority (note, i said majority not all) of Djs nowadays focus on them self and what gigs they went to and how 'crazy' their last gig was. |
That's really where I was going with this. In the end the top people on the job will be giving credit and showcasing other people's work, as that is the first function of a DJ. All these wonderful parties, and sub genres coming from all over the world, and he is somebody that helps to bring it together.
The voice is secondary, but very important. Yes, Jon Jon, Carl Cox's voice is horrible, but the guy knows his stuff. He came from being a humble sound system builder, to doing world tours, when nobody looked at DJing in that way. Plus, who would beef with him?
What would you do if you started listening to the Essential Mix and Tong didn't introduce the DJ? I know others have filled in time to time, but those were temporary. If it was permanent, I'd have a harder time tuning in.
