"Saturday night into Sunday morning" is probably my favourite EDM radio quote going right now. Love hearing those words.

I actually prefer Digweeds voice to Carl Cox lol (and that says a lot)

I think we may have been coming at it in a bit of different manner.

I had not even thought of the knowledge aspect.. mine was completely sound preference and by way of my gut.

Note to self.. do some homework on Annie Mac.

This is one thing we can safely say that likes of Armin, Tiesto and other Pop Djs would never be able achieve. The difference is, Tong's radio shows focus on 'other' happenings in the dance industry. Whereas majority (note, i said majority not all) of Djs nowadays focus on them self and what gigs they went to and how 'crazy' their last gig was.

Until and unless these Djs get out of that state of mind, i don't think Tong can be replaced. So in a nutshell the answer for your question from my perspective is that Tong is not replaceable and when he leaves, that void can never be filled.

With that out of the way, i would like to mention someone who comes a bit close to being similar to Tong and that is Markus Schulz. Now please do understand that Markus is waaaaay behind in the line as far as Tong's understanding of dance music and his experience is concerned but if Markus keeps at it as he has been for last couple of years he could very well be the next closest thing to Tong of dance music! "This Is Global DJ Broadcast"

Oh and for the voice factor, ummm yea Markus does beat the hell out of Cox and Digweed and even Jules. Won't comment on Annie Mac as i have listened to her maybe once (if that).

Man. First John Peel, now Pete Tong... Radio 1 just isn't the same...

I also agree that Digweed has a good radio voice. It's just his personality that seems made for radio DJs. Very laidback and mellow, and states things as matter of fact which I find appealing.

PS: Tong still sucks as a DJ

That's really where I was going with this. In the end the top people on the job will be giving credit and showcasing other people's work, as that is the first function of a DJ. All these wonderful parties, and sub genres coming from all over the world, and he is somebody that helps to bring it together.

The voice is secondary, but very important. Yes, Jon Jon, Carl Cox's voice is horrible, but the guy knows his stuff. He came from being a humble sound system builder, to doing world tours, when nobody looked at DJing in that way. Plus, who would beef with him?

What would you do if you started listening to the Essential Mix and Tong didn't introduce the DJ? I know others have filled in time to time, but those were temporary. If it was permanent, I'd have a harder time tuning in.

BAH! Now I feel incredibly silly

Re: Carl Cox
It's going to feel really silly if and when Cox has to showcase trance and happy hardcore (though I think Cox is a big Sander van Doorn fan)

Carl Cox is 46, and washed up. Why are you still talking about him? lol

And how do you equate humble background with having a great radio personality? lol Deep Dish sold shoes before they became DJ's, let's stick them on the radio too!
