It's definitely not ripped; Hybrid hired a Russian orchestra to perform the string parts.
It might well have been inspired by Gorecki, though; and you don't have to credit anyone for simple inspiration.

Gorecki's symphony itself is actually based around some folk melodies that he discovered, and a huge portion of classical music was composed by starting out with a popular folk song (basically the "pop music" of the day) and then elaborating on it. Bach would often start a composition by sitting down at the keyboard, playing a piece that someone else had written, and then writing elaborations or transformations of it.
A lot of the original folk songs have been forgotten, but today we remember the "classical" pieces because of the complex and interesting ways that composers elaborated on the original melodies.
Lots of great music can be made this way, and the idea that everyone should make music that's "completely original" is a fairly recent one. It's also silly in most cases, IMO, since there's nothing wrong with using someone else's work as a starting point -- as long as you can make something interesting and new out of the material you start with.
