I've come close a few times, but only actually ever been busted with anything once.
I was 19 or 20, had been drinking and smoking with some people I knew who were roommates of a high school friend of mine (but whom I barely knew - other than my friend from HS) at their house prior to heading back to where I was living at the time (my roommates and I were throwing a party that night). I had picked up around 2 cases of beer and a couple of bottles for myself and the people I was with (I had a fake ID at the time), and at one point or another after having a couple of drinks we decide it's time to head back to my house for the party.
I decided to drive my car home, we could have walked. Easily. Mistake #1.
On the four or five block drive there was an intersection where the street we needed to remain on ran into a one way, and rather than it being a "normal" intersection, the street we needed to remain on continued about three to five feet right, here's a terrible ASCII attempt at an illustration.
___|B|______
____<-______
|A|
A is where we hit the intersection, B is where we needed to be to remain on the same street (though this makes it look a lot further apart than it actually is). The direction of the one way is indicated by the arrow.
I choose to continue on the same street, even though I know full well I am technically going the wrong way on a one way for approximately three to five feet. Mistake #2.
I see the cherries and berries (of university police, no less) light up the moment I make the above move, and manage to get pulled over directly in front of our house. Everyone else in my car empties their pockets, trying to stash whatever they had in my car.
We were all pulled out of the car, and it was searched - around 3 grams of weed (none of which was mine), a pipe (also not mine), and a hand blown glass jar (mine - nothing in it) were found, as well as all the booze. I got possession, possession of paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a minor, Wisconsin's zero tolerance for minors (I blew .02 on the Breathalyzer), and 4 counts of distributing alcohol to minors (one for each of the other four people in the car with me, who all made it clear where they got the booze). Mistake #3 then proves to have been me even associating with these people in the first place.
I didn't go to jail, they towed my car, and I went into our house (where there was still a party going on - many of the guests of which had walked by me sitting in the back of a cop car while this was all being sorted out) where I proceeded to drink, smoke, and do as many benzo's as possible. That was the single most comforting blackout I've ever experienced.
At the time, the DA in the county where I was issued all of these tickets was a very close friend of my fathers. I wound up having to pay half the possession fine, the zero tolerance fine, and the possession of alcohol by a minor, but the providing alcohol to minors tickets were all dropped (at a whopping $440 each, they were easily the biggest).
To this day I look back on that night as one where I cannot believe how bad my judgment was, and feel fortunate it didn't turn out worse.
