They weren't strictly "trance" per say, but back a few years ago local melbourne act Highland were pretty sweet. No one else I am really aware of at the moment that is doing trance though :s Myke and I do occasionally with Lumiera, but even we haven't done anything in awhile because we are focusing on more down-tempo stuff, non club environments.

Yeah im the same I just don't see how mixing tunes on a laptop with ableton is classed as 'live'.

best set i've ever seen or heard, trance-wise. it was mostly his own stuff tho, but nothing wrong with that-- any dj who produces a lot is going to play mostly his own stuff-- when it comes to local guys obviously it would be lame: but hell- look at a tyas or a joc set- there might be 1 tune in there that doesn't have their names on it, so you can't really say that all CD-DJs are more likely to play different types of music within a set... most big guys play mostly their own stuff, or their own specific sound at least.

i think pvd does an interesting "live" compromise- mostly played from ableton, but with the keyboard running over a lot of the tracks as well... which perhaps combines both worlds (the flexibility of a dj set with the awesome "live" qualities)...

No i didn't mate but heard similar comments about his set from a few ppl

I think that if you love all of a producers tunes you will like them live but as much as i would probably lick sander van doorns balls i still dont think i would want to hear a whole set of just his tunes and he's the only producer that has blown me away with everything he has released.

My comments are more directed at what we see regularly here in Melbourne. I really do have to point out that they don't apply to every live act to - just the ones i have seen so far. I'm sure at some point i'll see one that blows me away but that hasn't happened yet.

but why compromise integrity? Once you start playing other people's tunes on Ableton, I don't consider it live, I don't even would call that a DJ set. Once you take beatmatching out of the game, unless you playing your own tunes, I consider that fucking cheating. Have a look at Sasha these days for example. Fuck I love Mongoose but his sets are incredibly fucking boring these days. Digweed however, is entirely different story....

Back to our initial discussion, wasn't there a party a year or two back called Alive which mostly consist of Live acts? Maybe Bill can fill us in on that one?
