i kinda like it without sigs

then i dont have to look at all those pictures and stuff

i also think it should be permanently disabled

but if not, a size limit is required

its kinda boring when a sig is taking up half of your screen or, makes the screen wider, so you have to scroll horizontaly to get the whole text.. that's very annyoing

should make a limit like. max 400 pixels width, and 200 in heigth or something + a size limit

i use 56k, and I have never had any problems with peoples sigs at all, i do agree if the sigs take up to much screen space that it can be a problem (and once one person has a large sig, everyone starts to copy), but i select the highest resoulition so that really doesnt bother me.

if theres the question of file size if image files, there are ways to reduce quailty/number of colours etc to reduce the file size.

I do miss the sigs as they add some indivudality to the post's, but i d see the need for rules.

I don't think this board would be the same without sigs, but that isnt gonna happen anyway so theres no point in wingin about it once we have decided on a few lil regulations they will be back..

rockster77: if you prefer it this way you can always disable sigs in your options

umm d00d .. maybe someone can't get broadband in their area.

like me - there is no cable out the front of my house, I'm too far from the phone exchange to get DSL (which is ridiculously expensive in australia anyway). which leaves satellite. lol.

just consider other people's situations before posting.

Talking no sigs

Forums have been MUCH faster on my 56k since the sigs was banned.
So IMO it can stay that way.

it was said before, in your profile there is a box which says something like "show other members sigs" you can turn the sigs off on your own.....

I disagree.

I often would pick and grab tracks that ppl had listed in their sigs and found awesome choons that I wouldn't have otherwise.

I reckon a size limit is all thats really needed, as the sigs do set this forums apart from ALL others.

I would love to get cable but it is not available in my area at the moment. A company is laing cables so it should be availabale soon, but large areas of Scotland still only have 56k dial up.

Some suggestions for the modem users: (cause I was one for years too)

1) Disable the sigs via config of TrancEaddict profile.
2) Disable viewing of pictures in your browser settings.
3) MTUSpeed; GET IT! (If you need it; let me know, I have a free one somewhere on my HDD I'm sure of it)
4) Check modem hardware manufacurer for correct modem initialization string.

Now some of that may seem extreme (like #2) and some simple (like #1) but the biggest difference a modem user is to change their OS's MTU settings.

Now...what's MTU?
MTU is short for 'Maximum Transmission Unit'.
When you change this setting, you are changing your modem's throuhput, not your connection speed. Basically you're cramming more information into your already existing connection speed.
Think of it as being able to suck more pop out of your straw using the same existing straw the last time you went to the movies.

First a little history:
When Windows was created before the days of the internet (late 80's-early 90s), they were only worried about connecting to other computers in a LAN enviornnment using Microsoft's network protocol Microsoft NetBEUI so they created their OS with an MTU setting of 1500.
When the internet started becoming a force in our lives the protocol of the day rapidly changed to TCP/IP. In order for Microsoft's OS to take full advantage of this protocol, the MTU settings need to be changed. The 'nominal' setting for TCP/IP MTU is 576.
Yes you would read that right...you could be wasting a third of your bandwidth because of your default Microsoft OS MTU setting.

I can't begin to explain what a dramatic change this makes to your dialup modem connection.
Broadband users don't necessarily need to do this, although there are cable/dsl registry tweaks you can do a search for easily and get. Peronally, I haven't seen any difference using it with the cable connection I'm on.
I would suggesting getting a program called MTUSpeed because they will do the changes for you via a Windows GUI and you won't have to monkey with your registry settings manually (can be dangerous even for Windows vets).
If you can, get DUMeter has well...it a very small program that will give you a small graphic showing your bandwidth upload and download.
After you make your MTU changes, you should starting seeing pretty constant uploads and downloads with the DUMeter program.

This can get very indepth, and I'm not going to go into any more detail, but I hope that I explained a least a little bit to you
Do a search on Google and you'll see lots of articles that get very granular about the tweaking of your analog modem.
I suggest sticking with a Windows application to do it for you.
But if you're comfortable with computers and have some time, it definately worth the read and understanding.

Cheers!
