Very useful in my mind, especially for looping acapellas or parts of quote en quote 'minimal' techno, intro percussion, basslines, melodies - really whatever you'd like.
It's only useless if you aren't creative enough to learn how to make use of it - just like an EFX unit, laptop, etc.
Exactly. I love my Cycloops. I need that back from Clovis asap, he hates using it
Denys, to be fair, in terms of bang for your buck...the cycloops is spot on. Only $200 and you get a sampler that can auto beat match with your music. Yes an outboard EFX unit will do loads more (it's designed to ) but it also costs 2-3 times as much. And YES Ableton can do EVEN more than that, but think of all the extra stuff you'd need with Ableton. Cycloops is just plug and play
It's a bit tricky to get used to, but once you're on, you're on. And there's an easy way to combat the multiple samples playing at a time sounding like shit. You just have to tweak the eq levels. With every additional sample you bring in, you're bringing more and more levels of sound with the same eq.

She didn't grab the snare, she grabbed that wonky synth

Yeah it's a lot of fun once you come up with something interesting to do. It also makes really long drawn out mixing easy, or it can get you out of a late mix in a pinch

I've never dj'ed in my life, but I had no idea you could make loops on vinyl. This makes switch to cd's or laptops even less reasonable to me. So has the looping ability on turntables been around for a long time, or is more of recent thing?

I think the reason the Cycloops is so widely received is because of it's price, it's size, and it's auto beatmatch function. You can stick it in a record bag and it only requires a few cables (power and input to a mixer) and an empty line in on a mixer to work. There's a little dial on it that lets you adjust for bpm if the auto beatmatch doesn't catch on fast enough or needs a little tweaking to get right. Fantastic little piece of equipment, but nothing really that new

Auto beatmatch is useless on it imo, but I think the redsound one might have a better engine.
The new USB one looks awesome.

but no one's teaching you how to read rob. if there are any other parts of my sentence you'd like to skip over then go right ahead.
to the original poster - i find things like EFX1000 and/or Ableton Live are capable of performing the same things as C-loops and quite a few more tricks and are a much better investment. but again - that's just me - you should try different equipment and figure out what's best for you. the local guitar center is gracious enough to have these things on display for me and let me try them out before i purchase anything. scope out stores like that nearby you and see if you can do the same.
Awww, did someone's feelings get hurt?
I'll be more sensitive next time, but I would really, really appreciate you pointing out what and/or how exactly I missed anything in your post. Always looking for ways to better myself, and I've gotta say - from my perspective, it just looks like you got a bit upset and needed to throw some kind of insult back at me to make up for it.
