Ableton comes with everything you need ever since version 7. The only effect I wouldnt use is the reverb because I prefer plugins for that. With 7 you can even sidechain the filter among other things.

Sidechaining the filter is a very cool feature and your right about the reverb in Ableton, it is absolutely atrocious

Agreed. It's much too dirty for me, but plenty of good reveerbs out there.

yea... i only really like the reverb. i think it is the best non-convolution verb on the market, personally.

students can get the whole pack for $270:
trackplug (eq, filters, sidechainable gate, sidechainable compressor, limiter)
multiband compressor
mastering limiter with dither
awesome reverb
....random pseudo surround sound effect

who can argue with that!
