Wow... that was a good read. It was both depressing and inspiring. Makes me think of my first year of grad school, sitting there watching some students giving presentations and thinking to myself, "How the HELL did they get here when they can't even use proper grammer?" I agree though... college isn't for everyone. To preach that idea so strongly is setting up many for failure in my opinion. Our public education system here is god awful.

Yes, it's also a place in Erotic City.

hopefully, i'll get a chance to read "Ulysses" again (some parts, at least) during the weekend.
i've never read "Portrait of an Artist" though, but enjoyed "dubliners" thoroughly.

The one thing I've realized about college is that its really not about achieving something, but qualifying for something. You come here to get a degree, and use said degree for finding a job. Just because 10 people all have the same degree doesn't mean they are all equally smart. I know tons of people who are older than me, technically more educated than me, yet are complete dumbasses when it comes to just about everything.

In my opinion, the real value of a College level education is the ability to become an efficient/productive member of society. At the end of the day it all comes down to what you actually make out of it and how you use it to your advantage. On the other hand, networking might be just as important as memorizing and cramming.

So have I. And it sucked so much balls that I've given up on the idea of ever touching a Joyce book again.
