theres another thread on here about completing tracks. I've commented there on this very subject. I've recently put together a track with bass percs a few melodies/leads etc but i got stuck on effects etc, which doesnt usually hold me back.
Although I'm aware its time and hard work that will help here I totally understand where lovehate is coming from.
I agree with what others have said about taking a break. Ive done just that and ditched the track in question, for now and will try a new track out, ill go back to that track another time. Sometimes I find you get writers block, so to speak.
Since I started though ive had less of these stumbling blocks so its true just keep at it and you'll get over these hurdles, thats what I intend on doing.

Lots of popular tracks out there don't have much in the way of effects.
Agree completely.
If you have a decent track on your hands, it will sound pretty good without any effects.
The effects are just the final phase of composition that will kick your track up a notch and give it that extra polish.

totally, one good effect can make up for 10 not so good ones.
I have been in a lull for the last year. I seem to come out okay with about a 16 measure short of the highlight of the song, but then it just dies from there. I cannot seem to get it all together into a song.
I have recently found inspiration watching videos while I try to compose something. I have a video playing (with no sound of course) of some game play that I captured using FRAPS. I import that into my project and compose while watching the video. I find it adds some inspiration for me as it adds somewhat of a story or theme for the music. I have done this on my most recent endeavor, and I think I might actually finish the song.
I imagine huge epic scenes from movies would be good inspiration for the break in the song and fast game play or racing/military airplane videos, etc would be good for the rest - for me anyway....
