It doesn't even need to be a trance radio station, just one aimed at the club culture in general. It seems like every other cultural demographic has one (in Melbourne) at least, even though the club culture is much bigger than the majority of them. A station like Hitz FM - if it was put on the air permanently - would pick up ratings of about 4-5 easily I'd suggest, and particularly in the demographic of like 16-25 years olds (who generally have a fairly high disposable income - myself excluded ) you'd be getting a pretty decent share of the audience if you were an intelligent advertiser. But no: we have a gay/lesbian radio station (why?), about 8 stations playing alternative music (yay), then all these other completely random stations that don't seem to have any common theme at all. Yet, so far as I know, there isn't even a timeslot - on any single frequency - devoted to electronic music, let alone an entire frequency devoted to it.
Although I suppose from a politician's perspective that's okay, because we all know how listening to "doof doof" music leads to drug use and the inevitable decay of society. I mean, there's not even any words, how can anyone listen to that shite?
Bah.
I say we all chip in and buy a commercial licence from somewhere. Anyone got a spare $60 million lying around?
