You don't really need AA at such a high resolution.

And playing it in DX9 also helps alot with fps. I play it in DX9 so that I can raise the resolution to 1680X1050 and 2 or 4 AA.

exactly. all the performance complaints are from people that simply refused to turn the quality down. asides from the occasional hiccup, the game ran perfectly for me with everything on highest, including AA. i would rather play at a lower res with higher texture quality. res isnt everything imo, especially if youre playing on a 32" tv

how far away from the tv are you sitting and where do you put the keyboard and mouse.

Also I dont understand all the complaints, even if someone does not have the newest computer, you can easily play it in medium and it still looks great.

Well I've had some significant framerate drops on some of the levels but I blame my 8600GT. Tuned down the graphics to mid-low for those maps and it works fine. Don't really care too much about how it looks anyways.

i sit roughly 5 feet away, and use a cordless mouse and keyboard; the mouse on a fat textbook and the keyboard on a flat cushion on my couch (note: the mouse is a laser mouse and not a simple optical one).

now, id never play quake 3 with this mouse (too big) but it plays all the single player shooters just fine

and LOL @ project-k, yes im guessing your 8600 is to blame as well!

I'd have thought resolution would matter more on a bigger screen

only if youre sitting right up close. 5 feet is a fair distance on my aging eyes

I just finished the game again a few hours ago, and it wasn't as bad as I remembered. There's always that god awful alien spaceship level, but once you're through that, it slowly starts to get fun again. The last few levels are some of the best moments in the game.

One thing I do love about this game and never really noticed before now is how the feel and the gameplay completely change throughout the game. It starts off with that sandbox style gameplay, similar to far cry - run through jungles, improvise with what you have, approach a scenario from any angle you want. Then Towards the middle of the game or so it starts shifting toward a more linear cinematic type of gameplay. After you get out of the alien ship, you're pretty much just running for your life the whole time.

Wow, I just finished crysis.

Fuck that was incredible. There were maybe 2/3 moments where I got stuck somewhere for 10 minutes or so but it wasn't that frustrating and didn't ruin the overall feel. The vtol was a little annoying... but that only really lasted for 2 minutes.

And yeh... I loved the story. I was reading in pcpp or something how its really hard to create a nice cinematic flow with pauses... but fucking hell they somehow did it and it just made the whole thing really epic.

Things I was dissapointed with:
-The tank level wasn't as fun as people said it was. Driving a tank is fun and all... until you get to 80% hp lost in your tank about 2 minutes later. Although admitably driving (a very awesome looking) tank still did have a really good coolness factor.
-I got stuck a few times... wasn't that bad though.
-The final boss battle. Comon? Crimson skies much? The hunter was cool and should've left it at that. The amount of bulllets he soaked and his attacks and stuff allmost made him more fun.

Pleasent suprises:
-The vtol part wasn't as bad as everyone seemed to be making out
-The graphics, fucking hell some of those effects and stuff just look awesome
-I was able to run the game throughout with everything high and physics and shaders very high (very high shaders just look awesome btw). some of the later levels I was averaging 25 fps and going +/- 2 (so at some points 23fps) but thats the lowest it got.
-The gameplay... oh my god the levels are so fricken open and you can look into the distance and see so much detail. The engine is 1000x better then oblivion. I'm sure the alien spaceship level is really crappy the second/third time round but it was great the first.
-Not too much load in or anything... things loaded smoothly etc
-I've heard people say the story is cheesy but I loved it... and the voice acting was just great.
-The alien ship. lol 2001! I got stuck in a place for about 4 minutes and it was a little frustrating for that moment but I guess it kind've added to the overall feel too. Also in general the varience in levels
-"Omg later is so non linear qq" I didn't have a problem with it. The levels were still really open and looked great and it still didn't feel like theres one path (hell it felt more open then half life 2 later on... and I didn't have a problem with half life 2 at all really)
-had to to aa off (you hardly notice it at all... especially on the later levels) and af down to 8x (16x is only maybe 5% better anyway... hardly noticeable). I also thought I was going to be able to play it all very high... but it still looked as good as I wanted (if not better) at high with very high physics/shaders.
-Did I mention gameplay? Some of the weopens were just really fun to use (with fun enemies to shoot).
-The first level (the one I played in the demo) was BY FAR the worst.

I think that crysis played like a really good set. You had all these different levels all with their own style and fun yet they all flowed together and told a brilliant story. This is the best game ever!

The graphics aren't just this years good looking (or two years from now) game either. The effects like depth of field and even the ice/dirt on your visor just add so much to the game and the animations are great. It was so worth the money even if just to play this game. Fuck far cry two... I'd rather see this brilliant ice/jungle levels then high res zebra butt

Rig-E8400, 2gb of ram (700mhz ddr3 or something... I can't remember but its fast) and 8800gt core clocked at 737 (considering I was getting 25-30 average fps later on the oc saved my butt). Oh and windows xp. Res is 1280x1024 with aa (2x halves my frame rate... damn limited 512mb of ram) at none and af at 8x.

btw it would seem if you have a half decent cpu you can turn physics up to very high for practically free. Since your probably only gonna be blowing up one building at a time (the cpu test blows up like 4 and even then I don't lag much) it really doesn't affect performance much if your gpu bottlenecked for the most part.

who would like to see my 20 gig 50 minute gameplay video of halfway through the first level to halfway through the second level?

Btw, I dont know if you guys played alot with the pistol, especially in the later levels or with the laser (I never used it). But if you retry some levels on Delta difficulty, meaning you dont have a crosshair and its overall harder, try to do them only with the pistol. Works great with the laser attachment.

And since you cant just go in guns blazing with the small clip of the pistol you really need to use strategy to hunt them down one by one.
