The warriors have been really dodgy about whether or not they would give him an extension. Baron Davis has had an injury plagued carer, so he wanted to sign the longest possible contract for the most reasonable amount of money.

The warriors gm Chris Mullen and coach Don Nelson have their contracts up next year as well, therefore it's unlikely that they will have a ton of money to toy around with. He went with what he was most comfortable with, security. Plus BD is really active in Hollywood so being in LA will help him stay close to the action.

so long term overall more $$ is the better than short term overall less.

He is not one of those players who made enough to go to a championship contender for less money I guess IMO Clippers are a step behind portland right now. Can't wait until we see what the big ol Greg Oden does. I see 11 pts and 8 rebs

Beasley elbowed in chest during first Heat practice
Associated Press

Updated: July 2, 2008, 2:11 PM ET

MIAMI -- Rookie forward Michael Beasley did not finish his first practice with the Miami Heat summer league team Wednesday after being struck in the chest by a teammate's elbow.

The Heat said Beasley, the No. 2 overall pick in last week's NBA draft, was being taken for evaluation and had no further details on the extent of the injury.

Beasley and the Heat are scheduled to begin play in the Orlando summer league on Monday.

As long as Beasley did not flop then its credible. As of now I could see Stern come down on the team with fines especially the person who hit him. Loss of 1 game pay and suspend him the first two games of the season. Seems justified due to the media coverage. Seriously this is no laughing matter. Beasley got hit in NBA summer practice and was reported by the AP that it happend

Talks between Davis and the Warriors on a contract extension broke down quickly this summer. According to both team and league sources, the biggest divide was the number of guaranteed years rather than average salary. Davis wanted a five-year extension in the neighborhood of $13 million a year, while the Warriors were only willing to guarantee an additional two years without any performance incentives.

story here

Josh Smith visiting Philly.

man, if Philly makes an offer over 10 million for Smith, that's it. I don't think Atlanta can match that, because they committed a good portion of the payroll to joe johnson and are planning to keep josh childress for a good amount.

we'll see how this goes. if smith joins philly, think about a team of iggy, miller, smith, and dalembert along with youngsters young and green. a good push in a weak atlantic division outside of boston.

so many flip flopping around.
now Gilbert Arenas changes his mind, and wants to go back to Washington?
Ron Artest publicly saying he was "misled" before making the decision to not opt out of his contract, and is deeply depressed he's going to be with Sacramento this year?

Elton Brand signing with the 76ers
Cory Maggette going to the Warriors

Shocked to see Brand going to the East Coast when he had a better chance of success with the Clips after they landed Baron Davis.

Sixers are pretty much instant contenders after getting Brand and assuming he stays healthy.

Had Billy King stayed as the Sixers GM, the move would have been too logical for him to make.

I'm not shocked. The clippers are a horrible organization and I don't blame EB for wanting to come to the east coast. The guy is going to dominate teams in the east

A lot of tradition and pride in Philly. With the signing of Brand, the 76ers instantly become a scary team in the East. They are one of the few teams with a true PG, true swingman AND a center. Now with Brand playing the 4 position, he's going to be a force.

If they can sign a perimeter spot shooter, watch out.

But still, bad karma for EB. Reminds me a lot of the failed Boozer contract. I understand it was only a nonverbal agreement but he was texting Dunleavy and Davis saying that he was going to re-sign. That situation sucks.

And HAHA to Baron. Have fun wasting away with the Clippers.

But let's go Celtics! They're taking the East again next year. Just need to re-sign Posey and they should be good to go.

I won't call the 76ers contenders yet, getting EB is massive, but that doesn't make them better then the Celtics or Pistons yet, and those are the two teams to beat in the East. Although, The Magic should play better in the post season after last year and the Raptors, if healthy, are very scary as well. The Heat and Bulls can only get better then they were and Cleveland is always scary.

Random games in the East will be a lot more entertaining again.

Its reported that the clippers are actively trying to sign andre iguodala and Josh smith. I don't think they will get josh smith but they might have the ammo to get emeka Okafor out of Charlotte.
Let the Stephon Marbury buyout clock start ,this should be taken care of very soon.
