Details on the OCD case.. |
I get on the train and this guy across from me takes his wallet out of his pocket. He holds his wallet flat and using what could only be described as a windwill-type move, places it carefully on his right knee.
He claps his hands.
He flips it open, removes his metropass, extends his metropass in his hand to full-arms length, looks at it, appears to make a mental note and does another windmill to place it back in his wallet.
He claps his hands.
He then picks up his wallet in his right hand and puts it back in his pocket.
He claps his hands.
He continued to do this, with perfect and consistent timing, for the duration of my 20-minute train ride. I would guess he was doing one cycle every ten seconds or so. Absolutely incredible to watch.

I'm sitting in the library, trying not to LOL. I also have a little gas, so I'm attempting not to lose hold of that, either.

Bombay local trains, rated amongst the best in the world for punctuality but amongst the worst in terms of safety. In a nutshell:
1. Trains have no doors, so the entrances are open, and people hang out of them clutching a handrail overhead. Saw a kid who was doing so get bashed in the head by an electricity pole that was too close at 100 km/h, and miraculously he didnt fall off, but his whole head had been re-arranged. His eyes and nose and mouth were all in weird positions and he asked us why we were staring at him, presumably he was in shock at the time, i dont know. Scariest thing I've ever seen.
2. Terrorist attack on 9 separate bogeys and I was in one of the trains but not in the bogey that had the bomb in it. Absolutely deafening sound, dead bodies everywhere, broken limbs, blood, the works. Still get jittery when stepping onto a train
3. Was walking on an overhead platform when a train came in and as it was leaving, people (as is the custom) jump in and out. One chap got caught between the train and the platform and fell in and the whole train went over his leg. Medics came rushing in as he was screaming in pain, put him on a stretcher and carried his leg to the hospital.
Trains in Bombay are efficient but are the most dangerous public transport I have ever heard of. No one takes responsibility for train safety and things just keep rolling on, as if a number of people dying on their way to work every single day is just part of the routine
