winamp for music. wmp or divx player for movies. i've never used iTunes.
Very lite MP3 player. Great sound. Simple straightforward design. Minimal on features but I could care less about skins, visualizations, etc. Very fast too. Loads up a billion songs in seconds.

One thing I have tried (and didn't like as it has way too many features I don't use) is Songbird. A few of you who would gingerly suckle the teat of Steve Jobs' abomination of a media player may appreciate it.
Well as a new dedicated mac user, ITUNES all the way .... seriously Tara ... in the year or 2 wait for you to be ready for a new laptop, think about the mac line up ... i currently use a mac book pro, and have the mac book air in our house ... and use to own a mac book (black) ive gone through he line up .. and LOVE THEM ALL

I'm reppin the WMP. I love its interface, and I've come to love the cute little rating stars (which are integrated with the library much better than in Winamp). Another reason I keep it over Winamp is that if I have an mp3, and I move it somewhere else, or rename it or the folder it's in, Winamp can't find it anymore and fucks up. WMP finds it even if I dragged it to some arbitrary subfolder, and updates the library accordingly.
Edit: People's ONLY excuse for using iTunes is if they're on a MAC.
