Missing Pirlo isn't a huge as people think. YES he has great spot kick ability, but he doesn't add much more than a pedestrian presence at mid-field. He's no De Rossi... And plus Grosso has a great foot thats not too much of a drop off from Pirlo, so he can take duties there...
Gattuso is great going forward but he's inconsistent with his D. I if you can move in a guy like Camoranesi who is just as quick, but is much more scrappy and I don't think you've lost anything there..
Plus, the team is pumped. Italy is most dangerous after they get a taste of winning in any major tournament. Traditionally they start off slow, but once they get going, their momentum is hard to stop. Buffon has been great in goal and every game Luca gets 1/2 inch closer to actually getting those headers on goal. I think this will be the game where he finally finds the net.

i'll be cheering spain on but i expect them to follow holland out in a similar fashion. peaked too early
in which case i'll be fully supporting russia against italy
if it's an italy-germany final i probably won't even bother watching

Nah, you're safe, I still think Spain are going to be champions. Italy without Pirlo and Gattuso will collapse, and then they'll break past the russians the same way as in the group game. Then Germany will be the chokers in the final for a change.
