I like Archipelago and Exploring the Tributaries (especially ETT, which is more progressive/ambient oriented and a very very nice album indeed). Archipelago has some nice tunes and a nice atmosphere over-all, but i think its effects-production over music, so i guess it could be a little more musical for me. Still, these noisy woosh effects present through-out the album give a nice ambient-atmopshere. I have to say though that Archipelago has a great front-cover which IMO is better than the music itself!
Damn, that would be the perfect front-cover for a Sigur Ros album, or a weird dark-ambient project or something...

Although I'm not a big fan of goa/psy, Archipelago FTW!

Yep, Robert Elster does the live appearances by himself. Saw him a couple of weeks ago and it was quite disappointing. Slow and predictable. On record > live (nowadays at least).

I am surprised more people like Archipelago over ETT.. I personally like ETT more.. as PETRAN pointed out earlier, tracks on Archipelago are too heavy for me too.. like a lot of music/sound in one single track blend together, like overdone.. ETT is more subtle and I like the simplicity of tracks in it..
But overall Archipelago has greater number of good tracks than ETT IMO.

He means "over-produced" with lots of effects and samples going-on at once, whereas tracks in Exploring the Tributaries revolve around a more specific central theme and are more simple. I will agree to that, although what is "over-" and "under-" produced is quite subjective really. Some people like "heavy" productions whereas others call them "over-produced" so it is not standard.

It's a question of style and thus of taste.

To generalise it in one way.. people who like high bass setting on their winamp would like Archipelago.. and people with low bass and more treble would like ETT..

On the other hand, Archipelago is a great trance album, but Exploring The Tributaries is a bit more minimal and electro influenced (or 'experimental' as they called it) so isnt as good. Interesting to see how other people compare the two.
