this was pretty sad.

i really didnt like the openers, everyone stood around staring at an empty dance floor, the few midgets that were dancing seemed to be forcing themselves to move to a crappy beat. all of a sudden, the music became energetic and danceable because it was when christopher lawrence came on and the floor quickly filled in. he was really rocking it pretty good in the beginning, and i even got up on a podium and grinded to some booty shaking girls. but here's the problem: the guy never really put any variety into his set. it just kept going and going and going like 1 continuous song. ALMOST NO VOCALS.

this is where it got sad, over a 1 hour 45min set, the dancefloor slowly and gradually thinned out. i could see people getting really tired of the sound not changing, people just standing around bobbing their heads. he didnt even play till close, one of the openers took over. the last half hour of his set there was almost nobody left, like only 20 people - just the diehards.

the guy mixes flawlessly - you cant tell where the transitions are - he's THAT good. i can see why he gets so much respect from bedroom/internet djs. but, and i keep preaching this, this is not what dj'ing is all about. djing is about variety and changing things up if something's not working. if you see your floor thinning out you should adjust. i invited him to my house for an afters but he said he had been up for the past 30 hours (and he def looked it), so i give him the benefit of the doubt.

what's sad is when i was watching the place almost empty, the bartenders and servers were cleaning up, and theres a famous dj bangin away music that is meant for a massive crowd to a handful of diehards that were not really dancing, it was just a sad scene, made me think about how things were in the old days and how they are now. where its at now is top names playing in a cheesy college/frat type bar in the suburbs next to an AMC movie theatre.

Simple: Christopher Lawrence = Trance DJ

He does not take requests, nor does he "change things up" What was he supposed to start playing?

His style of trance should have been GOA-Psy, not epic/commercial-vocal. You would have known this if you simply checked one of his sites.

Also if he was tired, then he most definitely was playing tracks at too fast a BPM, in his mind this would've sped the process up.

Sounds to me like he just wanted to get the gig over with. Too bad.

Not really into trance but he's one of the only Trance dj's I'd pay to see play.. Your review is pretty dissappointing to me.. He's never really been known for doing a bunch of vocal stuff & his style has always been pretty fluid...

The opening Dj's were absolutely terrible but Christopher Lawrence threw down. I've seen him probably 6 times and he never disappoints.

BTW...it is Tampa, so don't expect him to pull out his best tunes.

yea, he threw down all right, but then he got boring and everyone left until only like 20 people still there.
