Hello. My name is Zoran. My blog has linked me to this thread via my "Blog Stats" option. I must say you Torontians have a lot to be thankful for. Amazing city, incredible nightlife, tons of job opportunities, melting pot for all races, freedom to all.
I currently reside in Windsor, ON, right across the river from Detroit, the mecca of techno, and let me tell you one thing, our partying here is nothing compared to a night at the Guvernment for example. Or the boat cruise I went on. In Windsor, we have 1 nightclub (the "Boom Boom Room") that is strictly about house music (they bring in different DJs, from locals (Matt Herdman (who recently got signed to John Acquaviva's "Definitive" label and has 2 tracks released on Beatport, mind you he's a really good friend of mine and a really down-to-Earth guy, I know he'll make it big... Iain Hamilton, Abdul, D&A, Josh Paglione...) to mainstream, commercial and such -- Armin, Benassi are just a few to name). All other clubs in Windsor are more "commercial", meaning they play hip-hop, top 40, and those old dance songs I think even our grandmas have heard. I mean, does "Satisfaction" ever get old? Damn.
In Detroit, it is not much different. One major nightclub that support house music, and it's called club "Bleu" or "Bleu Room". Same thing as Windsor. Lots of local talent, big DJs here and there, small capacity. The only way to get into those underground techno parties Detroit is known for is to know people and have connections. Otherwise, if you have any doubts about the city like many outsiders do, I can't imagine a person walking down a random street in Detroit in morning hours to find a party. Shit is scary.
