1. It's a (mini?) massive...not a club gig. Totally different mindset on how DJs/managers/agencies think when it comes to accepting the gig (ie. Like PvD always being dedicated to Ten15 for the clubs here or say Vanguard in LA, but that dedication is out the window when it comes to massives or one-offs like maybe NYE...usually just a bidding war then lol.).
2. People who care about DJs and want to see them in a club will always be around. They can easily choose to wait for their next club gig (hoping they don't decide to bail ont he city or focus on just big events in SF)...
3. Easier to expose yourself and get your name out there to 5,000 people compared to 1,500 or so on a super packed night at a club...1,500 is being real generous here too since neither Ten15 or Ruby can hold that many peeps in the main rooms. Sure the sound can be channeled into other rooms...but that's not the same, hehe....
3. If it was a 21+ event, I could actually see a good argument for what you say...but it's 18+ and chances are most of that crowd will be 18-20 knowin ghow these massives go. What does that mean for the DJs? It's a whole new crowd they cannot reach in the club. Sure, most clubbers in the end probably don't have a big idea of who most of the DJs are....but if the DJs do their job well, that can change (I love it when I go to some event just to party, hang with friends, etc...and end up being blown away by a DJ...like how I decided to go to SvD when he played at Ten15 in Jan 2006. Had no expectations and just knew of him as a producer...left a changed man afte that night, lol). My point that I'm horribly trying to make is that if a DJ makes a good impression on those 18-20 year olds and they leave the place wanting more....well, if those DJs continue to build up their reputation and succeed (and I see all the headliners doing just that) they will know just where to find them once they turn 21...probably at some club. So, they are getting more early adopting fans by playing at an event like this.
I probably just didn't make any sense. I'll shut up now, lol
