I'll be sure to show that video to my insured who was a passenger in a car and saw her daughter get decapitated by a driver who crossed the medium and hit them head on. He only smoked one joint before leaving his friend's house and he thought he was just fine to drive.

meh.. unlike alcohol, weed never has a consistent effect on judgment and coordination - it all depends how experienced the person is with the drug and their skill with the activity. like the guy in the video, i'm 100% confident driving with some of my friends while they're high... they've been doing it for years with no accidents.

yet after a few experiences with noobs (to weed) that are stoned behind the wheel, i can say it definitely impairs them - a good example would be that chick in the british documentary that's been posted on here a few times - she obviously can't handle the high (she just smoked up for the first time ever in the previous scene FFS!)... then falsely goes to conclude that weed directly impairs driving. for most people it might, but i'd assume that the only time these inexperienced people actually go on to drive high is if they absolutely had to, or are going for a very short drive. a positive effect of the paranoia..

if driving high was actually responsible for a lot of accidents, wouldn't there have been such strict laws on it decades ago?

the first time i have ever smoked pot i never really did feel anything. The second time was while i was driving my grandparents station wagon and we were driving to Toronto and by the time i got to the lakeshore ramp, i had to get off,, i was like " I can't feel my legs,, how am i going to brake!" then later i decide to practice driving high in a parking lot and i ended up almost in a ditch. ahhahah

personally, I think the fine should be minimum $10,000.00 plus a 5 year suspension of your driver's licence. After you get your licence back then you can only drive with a licenced driver with at least 10 years driving experience in the passenger seat.

Nah, that's too much of an administration hassle. They should just be horse-whipped and subsequently shot.

honestly, people that are in a rush, have rage and drive waay too fast should just relax and smoke one. When i am sober I drive fine but other drivers piss me off, that is why i need something to calm me down.

Than you shouldn't be driving in that case, cause of such mindsets people get killed. It's just one drink, it's just one toke, it's bullshit, people think it will not happen to them, but then it does, and a life is gone.

there's one example.

I can give a lot more examples of sober people who cause car accidents then i can of people who smoked a joint.

I'm sure anyone could actually.

My bipolar aunt who drinks 8 cups of coffee each day and relies on antidepressants is someone I'm scared to get into a car with.....a person who just smoked a joint is not.

Insurance companies have actually done studies in California and BC and proved people who smoke weed and drive get into less accidents!

probably because weed makes you paranoid and a hell of a lot more cautious behind the wheel. I've gotten behind the wheel high a few times and I ended up driving like a senior citizen - barely doing the speed limit, not taking any chances whatsoever

I did this with my step mom the other day and she was like really impressed and couldnt believe it was me who was driving the car, how nicely and slowly I drove with her in the front seat (5 below the speed limit most of the time)......usually she fears for her life when I drive sober.

But again not everyone is confident enough to drive while stoned.....I have driven while heavy snow storms, heavy rain at night and during the day.I can kick ass of any sober driver when it comes to driving and following road rules........All sorts of parking included.

and as I said, I can accept that accidents happen....but when you drive while intoxicated....there is a greater chance that you will get into an accident.

by your logic we should take all sober drivers off the roads as they cause more accidents.

I think moderation is a key thing

just take an example of pot versus alcohol..

a typical half gram joint can be equal to a beer or two

I guess if you are doing bong hits in your car and/or it's your first time getting high ...do not drive

I think the fines for driving while stoned should be less then dui fines. The talk of this whole thread is weed makes you more cautious as a driver but has never been proven in the legal system.

/just my opinion
