I know you picked up a pair recently; how do they sit on your head? I had a pair of HD280s and they looked really funny when I was wearing them, because the headband would stick out ridiculously far.

I'm just wondering, as the DJ1's look to be roughly the same headband system.

Good headphones doesn't equal good DJing headphones.

There are loads of pairs with incredible sound quality designed for studio use that just wouldn't put up with a month's use being taken from club to club and treated slightly more roughly (even if you're really careful with your headphones, club use batters them a lot more than using them in the studio).

Also, perfect sound quality also doesn't mean they're ideal for DJing - one of the reasons I like the HD25s is that they aren't too bassy, in fact their bass response, while quite clear, is slightly out of proportion with the mid and high frequencies. In the studio this isn't really what you're after, but when DJing in a club it works well because too much bass can make the other frequencies unclear.


And comfort when you're constantly taking the headphones off and putting them on (like in a club) isn't the same as comfort when you're sat in the studio mixing a track down. Comfort is the part that has the biggest effect on preference - personally I hate headphones which cover the whole ear because in a hot club they can get really sweaty, but some people prefer them as they block out more of the surrounding sound.

Those AKGs look like they'd be the most uncomfortable thing to put on/take off your head every 2-3 mins.


Go to a shop, try some.

Thanks for a very quality response. I'll take a 4-year warranty then (I take up warranties on most things I buy anyways). What you said makes a lot of sense, though.

I am only planning to use my headphones for small DJ parties ... like house parties, and nothing big, 20-200 people or so. I dont want to be famous, I am just a portable houseparty DJ (and I have full-set DJ equipment, including lasers). Besides, I dont play much of the "new" music, I am oldskool to the bone. Only requests (when it comes to playing new music).

Most of the time I'll be wearing the headphones walking to my bus, work, college, shopping, walking around, etc.

Now that I think of it, these HD 650's dont have much protection against the weather or dust or whatever similar. So I might stick to something else, but I am never going to be buying the uncomfortable-looking AKG K1000

the fit on the ultrasones are extremely comfortable and form fitting, also i'll mention that the noise cancelling is excellent better than anything i have ever used. the sound is amazing as well.
