my review of the show....
first of all, big props to warm up dj, a lotta smooth grooves, wish he played until hybrid went on..... that said, onto peter hook.
my lord, Peter Hook's first 40-45 min i enjoyed, albeit he was a bit jumping around, but that was nothing compared to what he did later. But he didnt set the EQ and volume levels correctly, lotta distortion and pain in my ears. I dont know why he brought those headphones anyway. For a second after Born Slippy I thought he was gonna break out into the Blade song. Could he have played born slippy any faster.
I would like to thank him for playing some godawful remix of Crystal (if you play any remix, must play Lee Coombs mix in my opinion) because it reminded me to go listen to the original mix and listen Hook do what he does great, lay down awesome bass lines with the guitar, not songs ranging from the heineken commercial w/ that hip hop song don't hold back, then mix into a trance song, then into something else. Ugh, terrible set from him.
Hybrid, my review is biased since I love hybrid. I thought they started off a tad slow but built nicely in the direction they were going. Middle part of their set was quite strong, but last 30 min was worth price of admission for me. I wonder if that last song is new material from them, and if it will be on their new soundsystem cd which comes out soon. Always like Hybrid.
