- Gateways are shit. Agreed with Mike.
- Both ram and CPU (processor) are critical. If either one are slow, your system will be slow. Your CPU handles every single component in your computer along with doing lots of operations, if this is slow, your whole system is. Ram is important for applications, basically, to make them run faster and load quicker.
- It's a total memory hog. It is the way it pages ram. Most applications get a lot of ram which is why you see much usage, however when a memory intensive application comes in, Vista dumps the ram into the page file freeing for that application. It's not as bad as you think.
32bit uses up to 4.
64bit uses 4+.

- Core 2 Duo is an amazing proc.
- anyway, you don't need much power at all. 1GB (2gb ideal) min ram, get a nice dual core proc, phenoms, core 2 duos, anything with dual core will be good enough for your usage. worry about hd space. with what you want to do, you dont need to spend an arm and leg on it. so i think you'd be happy with your purchase. id suggest an HP though.
