my dad makes 150k a year plus bonuses and while i know that's not like millionaire baller status, it's definitely enough to have helped me out but he hasn't given me a dime towards college because the deal was i go right after high school and i didn't. so he cashed in my prepaid tuition and bought a boat. lol jerk

i wouldn't have it any other way. i used to feel sorry for myself about it, but now it makes me feel more accomplished. i am looking for a 2nd job now because fall is around the corner and i have to pay for classes. when i graduate, it's going to be really nice to say i did it all by myself.

my mom helps me out finanically occasionaly if i'm strapped for cash, but only on a loan basis. i always pay her back.

Yeah my dad was like that too. He always made sure we had opportunities, and worked his butt off so we could have a lot of things other kids didn't. I didn't really appreciate all that until I got older and realized how hard it must have been for him to do that on his own. But yeah, I'm grateful.

Now now, let's not turn this into a "poorer than thou" thread. This one is about the spoiled kids.

My mother, on the other hand, did whatever the fuck I asked her to. I took advantage of her so badly when I was a kid. God I was a fucking shit to her.

edit: lol, one time we were at the mall and she bought 60 dollars worth of candy and shit from the Bulk Barn. So I said "Pffft, you could have bought me a pair of jeans with that money!" and she gave me 100 dollars to go shopping.

Well I'd say I prefer not being spoiled. You can tell the ones who have been at my age. They are the ones with no money and no independence because they are used to maw and paw financing their "life style choices".

Being frugal is just another way to make the money that you work for go further. It's a skill which has to be learned. I've seen people who earn a lot less than me blow what to them is like a months wages on one night trying to be the big man (is that worth a month of your life?).

Rolling up the credit, "it'll be fine always has been no worries" even one joking about it. But the point comes when the bank starts calling and it's not the parent you can't bs your way out with excuses.

By being spoiled your parents are in no way doing you any favors.

lol i would have gotten bitch slapped in the face if i said that to my mom.

my kids will definitely be products of tough love. it's a tough world so i think that's the only way to go...without being too extreme about it.

I've been thinking about this lately. Growing up always thinking about how to spend money without ever thinking about the other side -- how to make it -- can be very destructive.

Since I doubt that I'll ever have a very lucrative job, one of my goals is to learn to live as cheaply as I can.

Oh yeah my mom had no control over my sister and I. We didn't respect her at all, and she never disciplined us or handed out any repercussions for our behaviour. We just didn't take her seriously...and it didn't help that my dad was a jerk to her also. Monkey see, monkey do.

My poor mother. :/
