really don't see the point in these things.

specially when it's just a couple of buttons on a piece of wood.

a midi keyboard with faders seems to be better and easier to manipulate then a buncha buttons on a piece of wood

You obviously don't use ableton
Its not that its particularly innovative, its just that no one else is building the stuff we need. How hard would it be for Allan and Heath to wack some little track launch buttons next to the faders on the xone 4d? Or korg on the xero 8? Not hard at all, but no ones doing it. So theres a big gap in the market for this stuff.
I personally wish that someone would build a cheap version in china and export it to those of us who can't afford the monome, but as it is I'll be buying one in the next release. The trouble is, allan and Heath and that lot have really missed the boat now, because theres heaps of stuff that people have developed to do with the monome which can't be done with little track launch buttons next to faders. So there will always be a market for the monome now I think.
Check this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSKluYlp5hE
and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJwx...feature=related

I think I've posted these before, but they sum up why I want one basically.

i have been looking into this kinda of stuff lately, i kinda love experimenting with electronics and max/ableton..... oh the fun but then sometimes you would drive yourself insane with config and how flexiable this thing is.

Agreed.

So... I almost bought the kit last night, until I realized that they aren't taking orders.

We lose the CNC at work here in a couple months, which is sad. I was hoping to get a kit soon so that I could do up the proper dimensions and machine out a box. Allied... do they have a drawing file / PDF to go off of to machine out the top plate? What are your plans for that? I can do a drawing if you need it, since I'll need it too.
