Id go with Cubase over both ableton and FL studio because it is much better handling audio, much better mixer, and sequencing. If you wanna do the live mixing thingy with Ableton then go with that. If you're a student you can get a good discount.

What does that tell me? How does a better mixer and better "sequencing" (not sure what that means either) explain Cubase's superior handling of audio?

once you learn the shortcuts, live becomes pretty fast at sequencing, also because of the ability to create in both the arrangement/session view (similar to the mixer view in crapbase), i'd say that live is actually more powerful in terms of sequencing and getting ideas recorded quickly.

FL Studio 8 is the latest edition of Fruity Loops, and it is by far the most streamlined and easy to use software studio I have laid my eyes on (and I've seen Reason 3, Cubase 3, MOTU Digital Performer 4, and Logic).
It may not be regarded as the most professional software studio out there, but ImageLine has been updating it relatively frequently and it has gained tremendous popularity because of its fantastic interface and its plug-in capabilities.

Cubase 4 (the new one) has a slightly upper hand on FL Studio 8 because it produced an overall slightly better sound, but to a large extent, the sound quality also depends on the skills and experience of the artist.

Ableton Live is more of a... live "spinning" application, similar to Virtual DJ 5, just WAY MORE advanced (I can't even compare the two). If you don't like using hardware turntables for DJing, Ableton Live is definitely the software to get. It can actually be used for production as well, but in my opinion, it gives way to the other more powerful software studios.

I don't know ask him not me

BTW Live is a great soft. as well as FLstudio

I used fruity since 1.8 and it served me great... but Live gives me a more creative abilities at hand, and is fun (as does fruity don't get me wrong...)

It's really a matter of preference, i found myself making better sounding tracks in live than in FLstudio, but thats maybe just experience gained over time...

I hate when people say this, cause honestly I think it is utter bullturds. Sound quality is way up there, especially since the last update with 64bit summing. And I have literally tried everything except the Mac programs, eg- Logic. (which I would like to try someday) But, my music has not come so far until I started using Live. Back in the day when it used to only be used for audio loops, yea maybe then you could say that it was mainly for dj'in but, come on, it has every tool you would need to create top notch tracks. In reality, if your music sounds like shit bisquits then, it is YOU not the sequencer.

Ps- IMO Cubase SUX - not to offend anybody, but, it really does come down to preference but, I would not be giving advice that Live is mostly for dj'in, cause I don't buy that idea.

Um, I did. Remember, that's what you initially responded to?

Starphaze: I'm not sure I agree with the description that Live is a (way) more powerful Virtual DJ 5 with some production capability. Live is a really damn good production tool - easily comparable to Cubase, Logic, FL Studio, and others. I think the poll has Live first or second used on this forum for production. I agree it is personal preference, I just disagree with Live being labeled solely a dj tool, and... oh yeah, you CAN produce on it, too, but that isn't really what it's for.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you said.

Hahaha, so youre gonna tell me that Fruity Loops or live are better than Cubase? LOL. Maybe easier to use for newbies. So why do 90% of professional producers use either Cubase, Logic or Pro Tools? Cubase is way more complete than FL and Ableton for production purposes (excluding live acts or whatever u call that). Between Ableton and Fruity I would definitely pick Ableton because its much faster to layout a song and comes with really good instruments and effects. When I meant better handling audio I was talking about the audio editor in Cubase which is almost as good as Wabelab or Audition and pretty much anything can be done with an audio file in Cubase. An audio editor would be necessary only for mastering. Theres my 2 cents and it comes down to the producer not the software. I have friends that use Orion and have songs on some of the biggest mixed albums in electronica.
