I'm sure if you play Darude - Sandstorm and all those cheese trance songs, people will like it.

thats why there are remixes which are extended for mixing

Hehe, looks like I might be getting another high school function to do in a few weeks. Gotta get my black sister to help me choose some tunes for it. I always manage to fit in a couple of hours of trance tho. You just gotta know how to work them into it.

Its good money... I'm a sellout, I know. haha

Idea Playing bullshit music with minimal effort

I recently DJed a wedding and I knew I was going to have to play a crapload of bullshit music (ranging from rock to R&B to slow sentimental stuff). Almost all my records are trance and breakbeat, with a few hip hop. I didn't want to waste my time burning everything onto CD and using my CD decks (Numark Axis 8s) to try and mix all that crap, so I cheated.

I ripped and downloaded the type of songs they wanted, many from CDs that the bride and groom gave me, and decided to bring my computer to the reception and play everything from Winamp. I set the crossfader plugin so that the songs played continuosly without jumping over each other. I hooked up the computer to one channel of my mixer and a CD deck into another channel so I could mix in some REAL music with the CD player if necessary. Well the crowd was definitely not right for me to throw in some trance or breaks so I ended up using Winamp exclusively and nobody gave two shits

If you think you're going to have to play a bunch of BS music and if you think it won't matter much if you mix well then you could consider letting everything just play from your computer. I usually use two vinyl and one CD drive at the parties I play at, but for a cheesy gig, I used a cheesy setup (which most people there actually thought was cool ).

Here's a great hip hop crowd pleaser: Outkast - Rosa Parks

Well, no one cares about mixing at a wedding anyways. Hehe

I mix the tunes I don't have on vinyl on vtt atleast, keeps the crowd grooving. Better than your average mobile dj. :P

have fun spinning hip hop!

seriously, you should be able come up with a cool set. i was record shopping this weekend at the store i always get house music from, and they have mostly hip hop, but some house. anyway, there was a dj there spinning, ripping it up with some new stuff (eminem remixes, black-a-licious, etc) and then laying down some old school too (das fx, tribe called quest, de la soul). no need to go cheese just to please the crowd. they'll have fun if it's a good tune.

go to a hip-hop record shop, talk to the locals, and see what they can recommend.

i'm sure you'll have lots of fun.
