I know what you mean, I was discouraged by that at first. So different from other RPG i've played. Its something you need to get used to

Not quite sure why I didn't like it... probably has a great deal to do with the fact that your main character, Geralt, is somebody else's fantasy creation. You don't get to customize his look or really his skills/talents or anything like that. I prefer to have a blank slate to deal with that I get to fit into a story with my own considerations, not play somebody else's story out.
Yep, the character existed before the game, in the novels, so they they wanted players to be able to play a cult character. It wouldn't be the same if it was some random witcher without a back story.

Exactly. And I would probably like the novels and appreciate the game a lot more if I put more work into research... but, uh, ehhhhh. lol
I don't usually like franchise-based characters. I just don't have fun with [recent movie title]: The Game- type games. Knowwhatimean?

I usually enjoy customizing characters in RPGs, and playing a 'prefab' character usually sucks because they tend to be bland and uninvolved, but this character particularly was rather well thought out. They used the main character considerably in the plot, to a point where the story could not have been told through a random miscelaneous character. In most RPGs you're treated as a miscelaneous no-name outlander and none of the NPCs seem to know who you are or care, but in this case various NPCs already have extensive pre-existing relations with the character, so it makes interacting with them much more interesting.

I didn't read the books, and still I'm enjoying the game. Different folks different strokes I guess

Found it pretty hard to get into. Only playing it again because I have nothing else to play (singleplayer) at the moment. I guess I just havent found the plot interesting yet, and im in chapter 3.
