well, i guess when 2013 ticks round we'll see what, if anything, has happened. its a nice change of pace for the doomsday people to give us a fairly precise date with which to judge their conspiracy theory.
i dont see it being immune to collusion law. i certainly dont understand why the rest of the corporate world would favour a system whereby they made it more difficult to reach their consumer. if i don't feel like paying for the right to access this more privatised internet, how are they going to sell me all their shit?
i see no major impediment to preventing such an occurrence by law (if indeed no laws currently exist to prevent it) and as has already been mentioned, i can see it being a powerful force in government policy (ie elections) of the future.
whilst governments frequently act as an agent of the propertied class(es ?), the so-called 'elite' are not all powerful in human relations. and i can't see them winning this one. but i doubt its true anyway.
[tangent]
and this is what i dont understand about you more 'anarchistic' types - you constantly bemoan the great evils of government, im wondering what stands between private industry and john citizen if not the state? sure, private industry often use government to fuck john, but john sometimes gets to fuck back.
all the problems that you guys identify and rail against, i see all those problems being even worse in any plausible alternative you might be able to show me. anarcho-syndicalism i find rather implausible, and thats the only genre of anarchism i am familiar with. obviously that is far too much like socialism for you guys so im kinda in the dark.
imo, any other system of social/economic/political stratification would see the corporate powerhouse becoming even more all-encompassing and all-powerful than it is currently.
edit: haha, that smiley was a total accident. but fitting!!
