Don't actually BUY off iTunes either, since most of the tracks are DRM'd and the files won't play in Torq, Serato or Traktor.

But if all you have is vinyl with EDM on it, just forget the gig.

Maybe grab some Serato vinyls and check this thread (below) if you don't want to spring for the Torq/Serato purchase or whatever... for the cost of the vinyls, you could access a slew of mp3's they may actually dig if this works like it's supposed to...

vinyl is a huge handicap when it comes to being diverse when you are talking about not just switching genres, but completely leaping out. If people want to hear hip hop/rap/top 40 they more than likely don't wanna hear edm right out of the shute. If you wanna expose people to your music, then ease them in with commercial top 40 tracks, and try to slip some remixes, I would recommend like some armand van helden moon-x style tracks, still poppy and recognizible, but still your shit. In the future, borrow or purchase at least cd players. you could even use discmans for this type of gig...

But if you do well you'll get asked to do more, and hopefully eventually be able to mix in some of the stuff that you like.

Fixed.

Played a house party once never again each person at the party wanted rap and raggae but the person throwing the party knows I spin trance, tech/ funky house.. Most of the gurls where dancing to it but they still wanted me to spin music that I don't listen to or spin and all my vinyls and cds I had no rapp so I only go to parties and clubs that only spin trance or house

I would definitly shell out some money to pick up an MP3 manipulation program like Serato.

Then get on every radio station around your way's website that is a top 40/rap/RnB and see what their playlists consists of. Every radio station shows their top request and their recently played. Start a downloading spree from that. That way you have a full list of what the girls are listeneing to and expecting to hear. Do throw in a few of your tunes to either surpise them or cleanse the floor for a bit.

Due to it being a houseparty your probibally gonna want enough music for between 2-4 hours. Just be ready to tell WAY to many people to get their alcahol away from your equipment and to hear a request for a song between 5-10 times in 15 minutes.

I will guarantee you that you will be asked to play Flo'Rida "Low" atleast 4 times in the course of the night. If not more.

If you really need a list of what you can download and play for them give me a IM and ill shoot you every song that I can think of from the Rap/RnB side that you can use for this party.

Ive done a houseparty and it wasnt the funnest experiance ever. I was behind the wall in the kitchen so i couldnt see the dancefloor or if anyone was really going when i was mixing and feed from their energy. Everyone there wanted to "give it a try" and i would be trying to mix and have 3-4 people telling me to "play this, play that, do you have this". Wasnt the funnest thing ever but it did teach me alot about the way people want Top 40 structured.

true enough and if not they will learn too. Then you can say you helped them listen to beats. There will be somebody at the party that will dance to them..
