Another nice Clovis mix!

Big ups

It definitely is a testiment to how cool a track Time Never Fades Away is as I'm not sick of it either and I've been hearing it since before the WMC. I think I played it right before you took over for me at the Catalina Hotel come to think of it.

Actually I played it that time, yours was HOSH - Radar.

I had cooled off on playing it for a few months but have been working it back in lately here and there. I thought it was a cool pick up after the Alex Under tune.

Thanks for the mixing comments, I thought it was pretty smooth as well, especially considering it was the first time I even played some of those tracks.

yea man, your mix on a technical standpoint is awesome, I just can't get into the sound. Does nothing for me. I need more elements or depth to the tunes, but its a great mix technically speaking.

Well done!

Your sets are really hit-and-miss for me, but this one was a hit. I often have the same feeling as KiNeTiC ENeRgy when listening to your sets...that I wished some of them had more depth or elements. Yet, I always find myself unable to resist checking out everything you post... and this is exactly why. This one really did it for me.

I feel like I learn a lot from your sets and have used them to view dance music in a much different way than I used to. There are always elements of your sets that I enjoy, but I usually stop giving it as much attention after a certain point, when it seems it's not going to "get anywhere". That didn't happen so much here. Even though I was listening on these shit PC speakers again (yeah, I know, I need to stop reviewing sets while at work), I found myself going "wow, this is nice... bet this would sound really good if listened to on a proper system" instead of "blah, I'm bored with this".

I think the presence of a few tracks with lush/deep pads were really enough for me. Perhaps that's what separates this set from some others of yours that might just lose my interest. This set still had that organic, stripped-down, loopy, percussive, "This-is-a-Clovis-set" sound to it, yet there was that subtle melody here and there that was enough to remind you that we are still listening to music here, and not just a slightly de-quantized set of beats-and-beeps.

It still goes off on its tangents, but there's nothing wrong with that.

I liked that this set still "sounded electronic" while incorporating a lot of the live instrument/real percussion sound you've grown accustomed to. And, as always, the mixing was incredibly smooth and spot-on.

Well done, I'm sure I'll be giving this one a few more listens.

Thank you David I really appreciate that you took the time to listen. Give it a go in good headphones or speakers though, will really do it justice.

As for the sound not being everyones thing, this year I have really been finding exactly the kind of music I want to play and exactly the sound I really like so it probably won't be changing much soon. I like simplicity and subtle music, and teasing with small amounts of melody and synthy stuff. Most of the gigs I get are opening slots or afterhours into the morning so I don't play much big room peak time music at all (though I'd argue that a lot of the tunes I play could still work in that environment played the right way).

Definitely plan on it.

I would expect nothing less! I also like subtle music, although obviously to a different degree than you. It's the melodic teasing that really interests me. The subtlety in-between is what makes the melodies so delicious.

Agreed as well... and, I'll add, when played to the right crowd.

Cheers to both of you.

Clovis, really nice mix. I shared it with another forum and really dug it.

The opening track was a little in my face, mostly because I thought the bass could have a little more umpf to it, but the transition into the next track is great. I mentioned to you before.. lost in the wilderness.. love that.

As for my comments in Rob's Gonzo mix thread. I'll echo that here, I don't know a damn track in this mix, yet the elements all work together; Especially the track with the womans voice/sample lala-dodo I tried to narrow it down on beatport re:the tracklist. Not like I have the means to play it anyway.
