Nice.

HTML isn't compiled. It's not even a programming language. It's a markup language. I can't even begin to understand what you mean by "compiler" and would imagine that few if any others here can either, which is why we haven't given you any recommendations.

It sounds like maybe you're talking about a graphical editor like Dreamweaver... or maybe this is ASP.NET, but I doubt it, seeing as how there's only one ASP.NET compiler and it's part of the framework. But none of those things make any sense when stacked against the other thing you said ("you have to upload it already processed, otherwise it will just display the text instead of the page"... what??).

P.S. You're moving from frames to "double" frames? I think I'm gonna be sick...

Anybody that uses frames and doesn't live in 1997 or use Netscape deserves to be shot in the fucking face

If you can't use notepad, try using TEXTPAD

quote:
general purpose editor for plain text files. Easy to use, with all the features a power user requires.

TextPad® is designed to provide the power and functionality to satisfy the most demanding text editing requirements. It can edit files up to the limits of virtual memory, and it will work with the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows® 2000, Server 2003, XP and Vista.

TextPad has been implemented according to the Windows XP user interface guidelines, so great attention has been paid to making it easy for both beginners and experienced users. In-context help is available for all commands, and in-context menus pop-up with the right mouse button. The Windows multiple document interface allows multiple files to be edited simultaneously, with up to 2 views on each file. Text can be dragged and dropped between files.

In addition to the usual cut and paste capabilities, you can correct the most common typing errors with commands to change case, and transpose words, characters and lines. Other commands let you indent blocks of text, split or join lines, and insert whole files. Any change can be undone or redone, right back to the first one made. Visible bookmarks can be put on lines, and edit commands can be applied to lines with bookmarks.

Frequently used combinations of commands can be saved as keystroke macros, and the spelling checker has dictionaries for 10 languages.

It also has a customizable tools menu, and integral file compare and search commands, with hypertext jumps from the matched text to the corresponding line in the source file (ideal for integrating compilers).

p.s. frames...ewww!

lol @ people flipping out on use of the word 'compiled', so the fuck what if they never took comp sci class and used the wrong term, you know what the OP meant.

although it's not free i'd recommend dreamweaver, it's great for putting the basics together/making sure all your tags are in order.. then do the rest in notepad

Holy shit, she just came in here to ask for help.

Kamka, PM me, and I'll be more than happy to explain some of the basics of HTML and why the context of compiling doesn't really apply at all here.

Also, I suggest for a text editor to try downloading EditPlus. It will give you a nice look with colour coded HTML tags.

How were any of us supposed to know what the OP meant? Would you know what I meant if I asked you for "microwave detergent"?

And then you recommend to use Notepad afterwards... haha, jesus, are people still able to work without syntax highlighting or even proper tab handling? Doing projects in Notepad doesn't make you some l33t h@x0r ninja, it makes you a luddite with too much time on your hands.

I was under the impression opening this thread that I missed the boat somewhere because I have never heard of a html compiler.

html editor? try dreamweaver. frontpage could get the job done too.

oops, i only scanned over kamka's second post briefly and didn't see the part where she said she thought actual compiling was involved... after the first post and the subsequent recommendations of editors i assumed that she misunderstood that a compiler was any program to put code together.. but people should cool their jets regardless, f'realz

and i haven't really been into web design for several years.. now that i think of it the main reason i used notepad was because the sites i made were done with a shitload of php includes and scripts... so i had to upload it to the server to see my progress anyway. dreamweaver was only useful for the most basic stages of designing templates etc and editing css sheets... in the end each building block of the page was small enough that using notepad and tabbing the tags manually was more than enough organization. but if programs do exist that don't do much more than organize and colour code tags for you then by all means use that over notepad.
