Some clubs are stereo, from what I know not many though. Another problem that might arise with (too) wide basslines is phase cancellation. Then you're in real trouble .
If less is more think about how much more more would be.

OtiumFX BassLane VST - freeware and good tool
Basslane is a free audio effect for VST compatible hosts. It's a simple, yet very handy little utility to control the stereo field of lower frequencies in your audio material. Allows you to define the processed frequency range while using several monitoring options, and to tweak how much you want it squeezed.
Tried it, didn't like it myself. And I have no need for it . I can imagine it being a neat and handy tool for many people though.
In addition to my prior comment: Since a lot of tracks aren't even released on vinyl anymore stereo bass should not be a problem as long as you make sure that phase cancellation doesn't occur. This is a problem for mono club sound systems and would make the bass disappear.
