What are people's thoughts on buying a fast 100gb external drive (USB2.0) and running the samples off there? If it works ok and doesn't slow down much, them I'm definitely keen to get this.

Hell I want to pre-order this

Internal drives are faster than external drives. If you must buy an external drive because you have a notebook, go Firewire.

Well, an addition like this to the music production scene isn't ever going to be bad.

I'll probably have a look at it if it comes out. The guy in the video is a crack up haha.

why does it matter if the quality of music is good then use the preset!

Certainly the quality of the music itself is the most important thing, but I think there is something to be said for originality in sound design.

Fair enough, but how often do you actually hear something that is truly original from those who are the most vocal about originality? Not very often, if at all, in my experience. Ironically, most of the time, it's just crappy half-assed emulations of deadmau5, A&B, etc. sounds.

Don't get me wrong, I love programming/tweaking synths and have been doing so for twenty-some years now, but I wouldn't say I've ever created anything truly original that hasn't been created, at least similarly, by many others.

Occupied by the AI and the monitors so no can do. Will have to be USB.

What about chaining the FireWire devices? Or maybe a Firewire hub?

FYI - I just stopped off at Guitar Center to check out the unadvertised prices of their Labor Day sale, and noticed that they had Atmostphere marked down about $50. If you're thinking about buying it to own Atmosphere and get the Omnishpere upgrade price (not announced yet), now may be the time to do it. Rumor is, the upgrade price will be announced next week (Sept. 1).

I agree 100%.

Also, those common sounds are used often because they work. Why reinvent the wheel? Guitars, cellos, pianos, etc. have been used for centuries now and they haven't ever gotten old.

Same thing with that triangle+square bassline and that detuned saw sound, and white noise wooshes. They work for their roles.

If your music fits within a genre, you are conforming to it's sound.
