If America, or any other country, does not have oil, they lose. Without oil, you recess into a 3rd world country. Mass starvation, civil wars, disease, and death. You think innocent people and US soldiers dying in Iraq is bad? That number is NOTHING close to the amount of deaths the world will experience once oil runs out. The numbers are childsplay right now, a laughing matter among everyone in government. People have no idea the amount of destruction and despair that will come once oil runs out. So, as far as sacrificing lives goes, this may be one of the most important times EVER to be at "war", yet millions of people are complaining about these lives being lost that will be so incredibly minuscule to the grand scale of things if nothing gets done about the oil crisis.
America, simply put, is genius for occupying Iraq. We have a prominent base in the middle east where the oil fields are a plenty. If we just get up and remove our troops from Iraq, which is a very popular idea amongst certain people in the US, we lose our foothold in the middle east oil, and consequently, we lose the Game. It is all about getting as much oil as possible, not only to survive until it runs out, but to have enough oil to build the means and infrastructure necessary to set up an alternative energy source that will run the country long after the oil fields have dried away.
So what if we occupy Iraq for 20 more years? We maintain what's important to us--oil, all the while presenting a force that will keep the "terrorists" at bay. Yes, there are killings every day. But what happens if we simply pack our bags and leave? Shit hits the fan. There will no longer be a presence that will protect the oil fields from being attacked, either. Would the world enjoy seeing all the huge oil fields in the Middle East being torched? I don't think so. What about a mass chaos whirling around the middle east that will be far greater than now? Not a fun thought, either.
What you are seeing is America playing the Game and playing it right. Give the dumbed-down US population something they want to hear and will easily believe--"terrorists!"--and use this reason for occupying the middle east. Guess what winning the Game means in this case? Use up everyone elses oil and save our homeland oil for last. Sure, it's immoral and very greedy of the US to do that, But you really can't just say "We're here for the oil" and expect the American citizens to be OK with our soldiers dying for oil, as well as other countries to be cool with it. But give them the trademark bad guy image and you have yourself a smooth entrance into the lush oil fields that will run your country throughout this crisis.
This is why you keep hearing "evil" and "terrorists" and "9/11" from our president's mouth through the mass media. To keep reminding the population of the reason why we ARE there, and why we need to STAY there. A winless war? Perfect. Allow us to occupy the middle east for as long as there is oil. This is also the reason why we haven't completely wiped out the land, either. I'm sure the US could have won the "war" years ago, but we need to occupy the land still, and this clever notion of drawing out the war is giving us a reason to stay there.
And it's funny, actually, if the terrorists just simply stopped killing people for a while, America would be in a very tough predicament. What would be our reason to stay there if all the violence stopped? It would appear to the US people that we had "won the war" and there would be an outcry to send our troops home! The war is over! If only those silly terrorists just stopped killing people for a while, America would have this clever scapegoat taken away from them, and the genius minds that run our country would have to go back to the drawing board.
So, every time you hear a person saying "Bring back the troops!" or "So many Iraqis are dying! This is horrible!" you just know they are absolutely clueless as to how the real world works and the crisis at hand. America is doing what they have to do to survive in the long run, and every American should be thankful for that. And if you aren't American, just hope your country is doing something about your country's future, or hope that your leaders have the capacity to look that far into the future, because god knows what the world will be like without oil. And I sure as hell know that that time will come within my lifetime. As immoral and greedy as America seems for doing this, it is simply our "will to survive," if you may. |

EDIT2: You're an intelligent guy to be able to see that much, you should also be able to figure out the terror is contrived and created by the same people who need it to exist in the first place to meet their end. I don't expect you to realize that much though as it would shatter your animalistic paradigm and cowardly excuses and rationalizations.
