Congratulations on making the move to mac!
Unofortunately, I don't mean to piss on your parade (especially being a relatively new mac owner myself) but if you can, take it back now!
I'm sorry to say it but you literally could not have chosen a worse time to buy a new macbook.
Don't misunderstand me, I too have reservations about 1st gen of a new model, but more so now than in recent years, Apple have to get it right first time and more often than not, when there is something flawed it's just a matter of upgrading the soft/firmware.
I also know you can get lost just endlessly waiting for the latest model to come out in fear of it being made obsolete quicker, but seriously the exact time you have bought your mac book such bad timing in terms of value.
Even if you don't want to buy the new model, the model you just bought will drop in price by at least 10-20% (within 3 to 4 weeks from now). You are right at that point when you pay full price for what will be considered last years model in a couple of weeks.
If it doesn't matter, then just enjoy it and again congratulations! but if you're asking if you are going to pissed if you see this model cheaper in a couple of weeks, I'm just trying to give you an honest answer. Yes.

Audacity is free, it does the job but I hate how budget it looks and feels. I got hold of bias peak and that works nicely, with a good interface and some great options for editing etc.. It's the closest thing I can find to wavelab, which sadly is PC only.

Not so much mac as it is having the control of a unix-like os; But I've had that problem for a long time. I can't stand to use windows anymore, and now I've got 2 linux machines and a mac-mini.
