Thanks for the info guys.
There's one other thing: How much power do these DSP cards pack? I know the DSP packs are different, but for example, a powercore with 4 DSP's or a creamware with 6 DSP's.. Are we talking 3 reverbs and 5 compressors, or 10 reverbs and 20 compressors..? How much can they actually run?

I already own some pretty good plugin packs like waves gold and ssl4000 and running out of CPU is pretty much a thing of the past (finally). So would I still benefit from a DSP card?
Because the only reason I'm considering buying one is if the effects/synths on it are better than 99% of VST's. Otherwise I'll just stick quality VST's, of which i can get quite a few for 1500$.

Stick to VST then. There are only a few plugins that truely stand out on these boards and there are tons of amazing VST's anyway since it's a more common format!

UAD is awesome but u might check the option of buying 2 or 3 of those (1 with a nice pack and two others with the basic pack) as its not that powerfull as they say! i have 3 of those and i still can't mix the whole project with it.
as far as quality its awesome! i have all of the plugins and the compressors and eqs are DEFO the best i'v heard in terms of dsp and vst.
sounds different from the hardware of course but still good , very good!

I am selling four UAD cards (PCI) w/ LA2A & 1176LN for $160 CAN each. I'd rather pass the deal to a local so if you are in GTA pm me.

This is an interesting thread. I've always pondered getting one of the UAD cards and wondered how much of a difference it would make over VST plugins and if the money would be well spent. At this point I think I'll wait for the UAD-2 card and make my decision then.

Does the powercore Virus plugin actually sound like the hardware Virus unit? This has me curious.

Yes it does. It has exactly all the same algorithms as the Access Virus B has. It's also developed by Access.

The hardware virus is not a true analog, it's virtual analog too so the powercore version sounds the same.

I was just researching a little bit, and looking on Sweetwater.com and I found all the info I need but, how do you buy an unlimited license and how much? I can't find it anywhere.

I don't know where to find them. But you can simply buy the plugin with a single license (max 1 instance PER CARD) or a multi-license (max 4 per card).

Some people might say a single license only allows 1 instance, but practice shows that you can run the Virus plugins twice if you own 2 seperate powercore cards which are plugged into the same pc
