And if you enjoyed it, that is the most important thing I guess. I'm not trying to delegitimize your enjoyment of his set!
Thats because most people nowdays assume trance = ASOT,Armin,Above & Beyond etc etc but there is a whole other part of trance which not alot of people care to listen or enjoy it much ismply because the top Dutch Djs dont play it,Iam ofcourse talking about psy trance. Yes your generic trance sucks ass badly these days.
Also You do have a good point Graham, what if these Djs didnt play "classics"?
there's nearly not as much good productions coming out these days. Most trance producers mostly go for vocal tunage lately which is ghey, there is too much cheese in trance nowadays. Many good trance producers stopped producing trance and slowly went into other genres (Mauro Picotto, Perry Oneil, Max Graham?, Ozgur Can etc) Back few years ago you would hear armin and others drop some awesome tech trance music which was amazing and somewhat underground.. nowadays it's all about classics and vocal stuff.. not enough originality.
The only trance producers i kinda like are Jonas Steur and SVD.
to this day my fav trance track is Armin vs MIKE - Intruder. Best trance tune ever made, hearing this in a club is fucking epic (released over 4 years ago).

Oh man I used to loooooooooooove tech trance.
p.s. what do you think of Mark Sherry as a Dj? his sets are simply bangining for the most part and I can honestly say he is one of the few that still plays a good tech trance set.Any thoughts?
A good trance set needs to accentuate these 4 key elements (imo) :
- deep
- euphoric
- driving
- energetic

I posted this in response to your comment in the LOL review thread but felt i should probably paste it here.
"actually i have found the last 3 sets he (Armin) played (Bal en blanc, niagara and LOL) that the best thing about them (each was better than the last) was the way he built the sets. It has been a while since i saw armin bang it out from the beginning and I think thats partly the reason I still like him so much. The classics to me are the icing on the cake. They are classics because they are good songs and are what the crowd wants to hear. Especially at the end of a long set. Its unlikely if this was a 3 hour set that we would have heard seven cities or touch me."
I think i may write a piece on this whole issue of genres.

good trance set consists of.....Jesus pose....Armins headphone move.....tiesto's airplane move (DVD: Tiestos: Another day at the Office)......and eddie halliwells stage dive....
thats what we call and epic set.....
bad sets consist of paul oakenfold mixing, and peter hook --> self explanitory

Midway in your point I was thinking Armin - Intruder and then I read your last sentence naming the track! Great minds

I've been listening to a few of his stuff, I enjoy his style or his feel of trance. It's kinda like uplifting tech trance. Hopefully we'll be seeing/hearing more from him.
