Well they quietly killed a bill which would have given a fetus some rights. I've read some material which suggests they will reorganize, and reintroduce the same sort of motion when they 'regain control'.

because voting conservative would go against every direction my moral, ethical, fiscal and environmental compass points me.

And I am not from the west.

there are too many Canadians who are about to witness the hardwiring of americans toward conservative ideals and gasp that once again they just might vote for a conservative; and say to themselves at least we, Canadians wont make that mistake here.

bring your propaganda machine.

cities do need special funding, and so do the various components that drive the economy. these are usually ignored in favour of relying on market forces and less government, which works fine when the economy rolls and the taxes do in turn, but not so much when that's not the case, and the downloading of responsibility has been of the likes ontario has seen in the past decade.

What did the Liberals ever do for toronto in 13 years? Cities arent using their voter power. If the liberals know that they cant do wrong and will always get elected why will they appeal to cities like toronto? And if the conservatives know that they can never do right why would they try to win over toronto? Voting liberal no matter what is what is costing toronto it's electoral power.

A lot of you seem to like using drugs on this messageboard. A Harper majority isn't going to do anything toward the eventual decriminilisation of one of your favourite "weeds", just so you know.

Of course, there are much larger issues, like the environment, but Canadians seem to be adopting the attitude of "oh well it won't be really bad until after I"m dead so who cares?" What plans does Harper's party have exactly?

If you want mid-late 1980s back again, then go ahead and vote for Harper. His self admitted role model is Brian Malroney and I'm sure some of us remember how well that worked out last time.

I think the liberals must be smoking green if they think that the green shift is a good idea.

Harper isnt as socially liberal as id like. Yes id like a decrim of weed but i like his stance on punishing criminals and the fact that even though he is against abortion hes dropped the subject. Chretien was pro life too but politically he left it alone. Why no fuss with chretien?

i always weigh out the parties in every election and every single time the answer is always to vote conservative because the other parties are about bigger government, taxing and spending, and stifling beurocracy. Would i like them to decrim weed? sure. But id much rather ensure my ability to buy food and shelter with ease first.

I, like other Aurorans (as per CityTV news tonight), vote for the best person for the job, not for the party.

Harper is no bush. Hes not even a shrub. If this were the US hed be a slight right centrist. So enough of enlisting bigotry against americans as part of your argument for politics here. We have steered so far left in the last 40 years that we need a correction. We need to make our public services more efficient. We need to bring down tax. We need to reinvent our economy so it can run with less subsidization. We are losing more and more ground to the 3rd world every single day and canada is doing little if nothing about it. All this and all dion can do is bring in yet another expensive, cumbersome, government scheme that will do nothing but burden our economy and kill jobs and bring us closer to being a 3rd world nation.

Canada is in big trouble and unless we reorganize and cut our operating expenses, we will never be able to recover our previous lifestyle.

When my parents were 30 they had a house, 2 cars, and a cottage and still managed to go to florida yearly on ONE entry level salary. That was only 25 years ago. Times have already changed and its about to get much worse. We are living on yesterday's wealth and people dont realize this.

Green shift? The only green it will shift is the green in my wallet.

Jay, I'm confused - what is it you want? More social programs? Lower taxes? Different fiscal policy? You talk a lot about why it's so obvious to vote conservative but I'm not sure you've really explained flat out why that is? Or maybe it's buried in your sensationalism.

Well Chretien was essentially pro choice though and knew it was non issue when he became leader of the Liberal Party...a wise choice. Harper has made noise in the past about tweaking the laws and, with a Majority government, might actually bring that back to the table again so it's not out of the realm of possibility. I accept that the Conservatives are going to be back in power, but I don't trust them nearly enough to want to award them a fucking Majority government

Harper's treatment of the Green Party yesterday regarding the debates was dispicable and I think really shows the kind of lows he'll go to to win elections.

I'm still personally not convinced that the Green Shift is entirely just a "carbon tax" that will be so horrific for everyone. I dont' think people have really given it a fair chance yet....even I need to look into it a bit more frankly but its intentions are at least noble and compare far better than Harper's...oh wait he doesn't really have an environmental policy except to drill more domestic oil, which is only really the START in combating the energy crisis....but good luck telling right wingers that.
