Oh no, not getting payed (or not enough to stay afloat sometimes) is serious non issue made up drama.

You dumbass , What you haven't read is that I have already contributed my hard earned money to the industry many years ago and now im left with media which will be as useful as a frisbee in the next couple of years due to new technology offering higher capacity disks just take a look the VHS / Tape industry.

Times have changed , internet speeds are getting faster and hard drives are getting bigger.

regular DVD's will become obsolete very soon, but Blu-Ray is a little ways off from being obsolete. A few more years with storage becoming larger and cheaper, they will also go. It's just too bulky and impractical to have all these discs that like u said, get scratched and become useless.

All physical mediums will become obsolete in 2 years. Especially with the new Red One camera that movies are being shot in, theaters being converted to digital (10,000 in a short time, which is 25% of the total theater count, have been slated for upgrade over the next year) and digital availability rising.

Also, Sushi, I hate to rain on your parade, but the reason people pirate has NOTHING to do with getting something for free so much as buying album with 15 songs and 13 of them are total shit because the MAFIAA forces them to put out what they want them to.

Concidering my net is 20/20 a month, thats a tad high to be downloading tons of stuff. So, for now with the cost of net, I'd say physical, theres also the fact I just plain prefer having the cd/dvd+case of stuff.

One thing I forgot to mention. The OP is from the US where metered connections do not exist. Hence why he had the "what's the big deal" mentality.

I take great care of my DVDs and have rarely had an issue with scratches or wear. But I know people do have a problem with the amount of space thousands of DVD boxes can take (or the excessive work they put into making custom mini-boxes/catalogs).

I have a netflix account and still visit Hollywood video from time to time.
If i do download movies, it's to get some of the movies in pre-release rips (Dark Knight, Wall-E, etc). I still end up buying/renting them anyways for the extra content.

As to the above scuffle about Sushipunk and Rostros:
There is no real difference to the customer when it comes to buying or pirating an album. If you try really hard, you can force yourself to feel a sense of satisfaction in handing over $10 that will get ultimately spliced up a zillion ways to eventually trickle down to your intended recipient. If it's a unknown artist, you've just given him (or her) half of his bus fare. If it's an "mtv mainstream" artist, you've contributed something insignificant. Why not just keep the money and still end up with a CD rip?

When Napster was "the big deal", the record industry was trying to appeal to customers by reminding them how good it feels to buy physical copies (this was before digital retail)-standing in line, opening the plastic, smelling the compact disc, other things I filed under "bullshit."
There's a difference between the "experience" lost between pirating music and movies, namely the social aspect of theaters.

I've bought less physical copies, purchased more digital music, but still being significantly trumped by my amount of piracy. I WOULD like to go back to buying more physical copies of my music. But if the purchase entails $14 to cover the plastic and a single SHITTY sleeve with the album cover and a generic times new roman tracklist on the back, why not go online to iTunes? And since I'm at my computer, why not just pirate it?

Long post shortened significantly the the point of not understanding the final thesis, "put more junk in CD cases!"

Erm, I prefer owning cds. Don't feel satisfied with an album, where its pirated or legally downloaded in lossless if its not physical.
