I did stop listening after her stupid tangential rant about defense budgets and when she said "It's the government's job to watch out for us and take care of us."

Ugh. How can you even call this a documentary? It's not even a crockumentary, it's just a grating diatribe full of claptrap. If she really spent 10 years on this then I feel sorry for her, but I have a feeling those 10 years weren't really spent on "research".

The linear system thing was meant to portray that the planet's resources are limited. You dont have to make a big deal about that statement. Unless you disagree with it.

As for the government's "job" - she was talking about the responsibilities of the government, to protect us the people and consumers and not the corporations. You're taking things out of context here.

Not a documentary? Well, tell me, whats the big lie here? Consumerism is not real? Rainforests are not getting chopped down? This doc was made into a short storyline for easier and simpler mode for most people to comprehend. If you're looking for mathematical and purely scientific response this is definitely not it. Its an overview, a wake-up call to look around and think about the whole shopping side of things.

That's a definition of "linear" that I don't think I've ever heard before. And even if she'd used plainer language, a "limited" amount can still be a very high amount, and when used by environmentalists, most often totally ignores the effect of technological shifts which are occurring more rapidly every generation.

To summarize: it's empty rhetoric.

There is a marked difference between "protect" and "take care of". Protection implies police and military force, not some assortment of misguided economic disincentives for businesses.

Ding! Give this man a peanut.

No, it's more anti-corporate propaganda without a shred of evidence to back up its outlandish claims. I don't know who it's supposed to wake up, because there's no way I could watch that whole thing without falling asleep.

Sorry I posted the thread - obviously apart from couple people noone cares. Forget about it. And I dont feel like arguing Diginut who obviously could hardly care about the environment. And I've posted proof against his logic before, which is fruitless since he keeps ignoring it. Anyways, have fun with your forum, I am done on this local forum shit. Time to go on real forums and other subforums where people actually care whats going on in the world instead of pure ignorance and disregard for the world issues, environment and other people. Planet is in peril, yet its so hard for most people to see. Its a shame.

I got serious things to do. Fundraisers, charity work, running for Green Party, seminars and other work. Talking about it on here is useless as shit.

Hey, i can totally appreciate that you care about the environment..but what i can't appreciate..and, I've come across this a lot..are elitist environmentalists..i work with two.....people who snub their nose at those that they deem to be not as environmentally concious...

I spend my days helping the lowest of the low get off the streets so excuse fucking me if i throw a banana peel in the garbage can and forget about the holy green bin...i must have overlooked it cuz i was too busy dealing with the drug addicted homeless dude that's suffering from a variety of mental health issues...

guess what i'm trying to get at is that everyone has a cause...maybe some of us are out there dealing with other shit.....so please save your "people who care about the world" crap..

have a great night..

I think I was supposed to feel some sort of inner pain over that "you don't care about the environment" thing. Wait, let me look for it... deep down... deeper... wait, wait! I found it! I found that deep-seated pain and sympathy and general angst over mother nature and all her wonderful creatures and all of the damage we... oh never mind, it was just gas.

In point of fact, I actually agree with environmentalists on many issues. I just don't agree with enviro-socialists. The former group is interested in what we as individuals can do to conserve wildlife and plant life, because they are useful to us, whereas the latter group is primarily interested in identifying speculative but dangerous-sounding threats based on the flimsiest of evidence and blaming them all on the commercial and industrial sectors.

You want to talk about parks, wetlands, tree farms, energy management and conservation (the sector in which I actually work - you know, real work), hunting restrictions, Drive Clean programs and air quality issues, water treatment, or cleaner lakes, you drop me a line, we'll chat.

If, on the other hand, what's on your mind is global warming, resource crashes, biodiversity crises, rainforest destruction, shrinking landfill space, pizza in the trash can, carbon dioxide emissions, and initiatives to ban plastic cups, then please, just put a lid on it because we all know where that conversation is going.

Can people see the difference here? Because there definitely is a difference between being environmentally conscious - wanting to conserve our natural resources and reduce waste - and being a sanctimonious, obstreperous, puerile, irritating prick incessantly weighing in with predictions of a global cataclysm and telling people to mend their ways NOW or else we're all going to die. That's exactly the same shit I hear from religious fundamentalists, it's just a different God.
