Some steps you could take:

1. Insert Windows XP CD, reboot, and run a repair.
2. Add hard drive to a working machine and boot into OS to recover
files.
3. Boot with utility CDs such as ERD Commander or UBCD.
4. If the drive fails at the hardware level, you can send to a data
recovery company such as Ontrack to find out if the data is
recoverable but at a considerable fee.
5. Sledge hammer to the drive in the back yard for good measure.

yeah i tried them all. So i am going to put hard drive into a working computer. I am thinking it is a hardware failure atm. Thanks all for your help. Great responses.
