hey justin, thanks for setting the tickets aside for Helen and me...
i had a great night, got there around 11. greg benz was okay, a little bit too mellow to get me excited. wandered around the other rooms for a bit, what a huge venue. i went to school in london for seven years and never crossed paths with Tequila Rose or whatever it used to be called. Got warmed up with some electro stuff with Melting Man, Max Graham passed by me so we headed back upstairs. room was full now, but still lots of room to dance which i love. I dug Max's set big time, he was playing harder than the last time i saw him at Footwork, but still lots of melody in there. Just chucky progressive/tech stuff. I really liked watching his fingers fly across the mixer, i like technical mixing as you know that what you are seeing/hearing is a unique performance.
some ridiculously messed up guy climbed on a speaker and then superman'd into the dj booth. i thought for sure he was going to land on max. even more amazing was that he didn't get kicked out and i saw him smoking on the dance floor two hours later. security was texting away. weak weak weak.
sound was perfect, loud but not deafening. enjoyed the lighting as well. i think the main room at Rumrunners is perfect for house events.
i found the treble on your violin to be a little piercing justin, but that makes sense if you couldn't hear yourself in the monitors...it was quite loud from where i was. otherwise it was different and i enjoyed it.
i didn't like the beginning of gilles bernards set, but after awhile he started playing more latin/tribal stuff which is my favourite. my friend was getting tired so we left a little earlier than i would have liked, around 4:30.
all in all a good night and worth the drive from toronto.
