OK I am going to try this one last time!

I dont give a fuck about the other 99% of the features of Traktor...

All I want to know is: If you have one of those midi-controller/mixer combos (i.e. Xone:3d), can you press play on the Xone:3d or do you have to do it through traktor by clickign the mouse?

This is just a yes or no question so please refrain from your page long lectures about using the search function, doing my own research, Michael Shumacher, etc.

Can you press play on the Xone:3d? (yes or no)

After this I give up!

Edit: btw I have done more research and watched youtube videos and all I could find were people either using the mouse and clicking away at the screen or they had it hooked up to CDJ-400s for instance

Have you even gone to the Traktor website and watched the Richie Hawtin videos? I say this because he is doing exactly what you are talking about and he explains it in full detail.

Firstly, you're orignal post wasn't asking the above question at all, but a very general question of how all this laptop Dj'ing shit works. As such, a simple yes/no answer could not be given.

If in fact all you want to know was whether someone can press play without using the mouse then...

or to put it another way

YES!!!

I agree, the original question was far too broad..... SO you can press play on the Xone:3d? sweet! my mission is complete.... I did read Rann's post that you highlighted there, I know you can control traktor through midi-controllers, mouse and keyboard... I just dont really know what category the xone:3d falls into i know part of it is a 'midi controller' but i dont really understand much beyond that...

The best thing would be for me to go try one of those things out by myself... but no one I know has anything besides 2 CDJs and a regularish mixer, and the stores dont have it hoooked up (xone:3d), so i just usually stare at it and get very confused

1) yes you can assign a midi button on the 3d to play a track in ableton (traktor i'm not familiar with) midi = any parameter assigned to a controller will be controllable by the controller based upon how it's set up by you

.......did you not understand?

I just can't figure out why after three people telling you that the answer was in that post, you still needed to ask if you can do it in software using a dedicated midi controller.

I applaud your perseverance and that's definately a good personality asset to have in this industry - it's great that you're so keen, but do you understand why, as you put it "people seem too busy or important" (which is not the case as explained) when questions such as this are asked?

It's because you don't know what you're asking about and when you get the answer you don't realise it. We're not being obtrusive or nasty by saying go out and learn before asking - we're really only trying to help to you form proper questions, that will advance you, not just give info that will confuse you more (like the hawtin video) or hold your hand through the entire subject of laptop Djing.

Dude, tell that fucking store, that if they want to sell one they better hook it up for you to try it and show you how it works. Show them you have the money if that what it takes. It is totally BS to expect you to buy a specialized, complicated and expensive bit of kit by just looking at the box.

You really put a lot of time and effort into these lectures your giving me, hopefully one day I can be as DJ-Technology educated as yourself.

I am sorry for not understanding jack shit about what a midi controller is. Instead of realising I know nothing and trying to explain it to me from the bottom up, you seem to love spending all these time typing out your stupid lectures to show how superior you are to me.

Basically, I just dont know jack shit about midi controllers, I have done research http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIDI_controller, but I am just looking for the practical 'how does it work' explanation from someone who already understands these things.

Seriously after owning CDJs + mixer for like 2 years I could probably write like a 1 page manual for a new DJ to use that would skip the whole learning process and just save them a shit load of time by just telling them the stuff that took X amount of time to learn on my own.

Thats is what I am looking for from you, and other people on this forum: I just want to know how a midicontroller works in combination with those computer DJ programs.

You cant seem to do that, all you want to do is cry and wine about how I am stupid and shouldnt be asking these questions. Is this a too 'ground-level' question for TA? should I be going to the midi-DJ'ing-for-dummies forum?

I own a CDJ setup, I am interested in how the things I do on the CDJs work when using a midi-controller. I know absolutely nothing about midi-controllers. End of story. If you dont want to help me understand then save your time, and stop posting these whiny little lectures.

Fuck me. I have never cinsidered myself superior to anyone on here and said this anyone on here in the best part of a decade I've been on here, but you really are a grade A prick. Actually you're a grade F prick because you even fail at being a prick.

In fact I sure this is what your computer screen looks like most days:

These fucking "lectures" (AKA people taking the time to try to help you) are just an attempt to combat you sheer denseness, in the hope you master the obviously lost art of READING.

Seriously, a lot of people have been trying to explain what has been right in front of you since the very beginning of this thread and all you can do is spit your dummy out and moan that someone isn't explaining step by step how to DJ with a laptop because you can't be bothered to find out by yourself (which may I add, isn't hard because it's what most of us did to find out about it).

Do you think it's a giant conspiracy that all the people that have contributed to this thread have said "just read the damn posts - it's all there". Of course it must be. We're just all being wankers and having a go at you for the fun of it. I love spending time trying to help people only to have them insult me for not answering them in the exact way they want their information. Fuck, I know, we'll all give you a refund for these tutorials as you're not happy with them.

As for a one page manual? I wrote a 3 sentence "manual" in this thread for your original question but as you don't know what you were talking about, let alone asking a question about, it meant nothing to you so you get shitty with us.

I help people on here because I like to, and in the reciprocal belief (proven) that if I need help, I can ask and someone will do the same for me, but I would never come across with the sort of attitude you have and I would try to find out about the subject matter before asking about it, rather than expecting people to give bottom up tutorials.

Truthfully, I hold nothing against you and please feel free to ask any questions you like, but just don't get shitty if you don't understand or don't get the answers in the format you want.

Everyone needs to relax, sit back and listen to some of their favourite songs..

Tension is high on the forum this Friday!

Midi Control is simply a controller that changes a value on a piece of software. Instead of having to click the software on screen you now have a nice knob/slider/fader/button you can press to manipulate the software on screen.

Quite simple really.

I'll do a search to see how i hook this thing up to get midi from it
