All this privacy BS is stupid considering the person listening could probably give a shit, and the person on the phone doesn't even know. How can you be embarrased or violated if you don't even know it happens.

Wow....

Just... Wow.

Our founders are rolling in their grave because some of our citizens are so apathetic and STUPID

My calls are PRIVATE. Nobody has a right to listen in on my conversations. Even if I'm calling up my cousin Mahmar Ahmed in Kabul, there is NO REASON for my call to be monitored without a proper warrant and court order.

Of course the FISA Amendments act of 2008 allows this to be done for 7 day. 7 DAYS WITHOUT A COURT ORDER OR WARRANT.

This is wrong.

If you think any differently you deserve death for treason.

I deserve death because I don't agree with you; a bit harsh even for someone who doesn't express his thoughts that well, don't you think? As for calling me stupid, I suggest you reserve your opinions on matter like that because it doesn't exactly make your argument stronger. It is actually counter-productive because it diverts the focus from the issue to irrelevant matters. Any person with minimal intellectual capacity understands that personal attacks merely divert the focus of a discussion because the attacker can't effective support (or perhaps articulate) an argument. But what do I know, I'm stupid! Although, I will admit your claims that your conversations are private are very convincing as to why random phone taps have an impact on your daily routine or that it makes you somehow feel violated even though you are unaware.

Since you clearly missed my point the first time, the point was that while it may be wrong it doesn't really affect your daily life so why get all worked up about it. I don't agree with eavesdropping, but i also don't really care about it. When I prioritize my life, that falls well below anything of significant importance.

EDIT: As for what our founding fathers would think: I could give a shit! Our founding fathers owned other human beings and didn't care to give women rights. They were clearly better people than I will ever be. Your boy Thomas Jefferson impregnated a slave while married. What a great guy. James Madison also owned another human being. How about Alexander Hamilton who thought it was a great idea to have duel in public. Classy act! I'm sure the list is long but i'm not going to look for anything more than i already know from memory.

Well then record your conversations/internet usage, etc. and send it to the NSA personally, the rest of this fucking world does seem to have a problem with it.

That doesn't even make sense. There is a distinct difference between your suggestion and not caring about whether someone listens to my conversations. Your suggestion requires me to affirmatively do something while I clearly don't want to do anything (like get worked up about something I can't control). I hope you see the difference.

It doesn't affect my life? If someone is listening into my conversation, say, the NSA, and I say something which happens to be political dissent, I could go to jail? Did you know that?

Of course not, because you don't care. I imagine you think people should be arrested for denying the holocaust as well? Thought crimes deserve jailtime, yes?

EDIT: I guess you don't remember our Cold War Red Scare do you? I could say you were a communist and have you arrested. Do you think it's any different now?

Absolutely not. In fact, go to websites like 4chan, and ask "Moot" (Site owner) how many times a year he gets calls by the FBI, forcing him to give them IP addresses of certain posts.

We are on the fast track to a police state. You've just bought into the propaganda and have a false sense of freedom.

the absurdity of the statement doesn't warrant a response that takes more than a moment.

how did you come up with such ridiculous assertions?

If that was me I would probably be more worried about the government spying on my insignificant life.

i'll send you a fax of my law school transcripts if you really want to see. better yet, would you like to see my paystub?

I'm pretty sure my federal, state, and SSI tax bills are about equal to your annual pre-tax salary.

jerZ07002, government's spying on its citizens is yet another step towards a totalitarian system. Bush has pressed many of these. Surely most conversations are nothing to be afraid of, but then the government call collect data on people, and organize databases on what they could label as anti-government persons. They are planning to do that in UK. So the government will know all about you, and I doubt they will just sit and do nothing about that, especially if you're not pro-government. So technically if you're pissed off and on the phone say the US president should die, you can be a terrorist. It can come to that point.

Its just a system being implemented where the government will have total control over you, and noone will ever dare challenge it. Almost like in Soviet Union, where phone calls were regularly monitored. Or is this a new Soviet Union in the building? The signs that it is approaching are all there - massive debt, military spending, nationalising of companies, loss of privacy and freedom, etc.
