there were 3 expansions for dawn of war. dark crusade didn't even have a real campaign or anything. i haven't played soulstorm but i think it's the same style. with this you would be getting pretty much 3 separate games with full stories, voice acting, movies etc. it's still a bit of a bummer not getting everything in one go but with the exploration aspect and getting a big long campaign and narrative for each faction instead of having to squeeze it into one package i'm looking forward to this more than before now.

Blizzard Activision's trollin' the gamers. First these "expansions" and now certain aspects of Battle.net not being free for D3.
They would've been well within their rights to charge monthly fees for bnet2 access, but instead they decided to keep it free and instead have microtransactions for extra features that you're in no way obligated to purchase. I don't see what the problem is.

Can anyone see the real 'Brood War-like' expansion on the horizon? That's right. There're three of them.

They're well within their rights to do whatever they'd like with their own IPs. WoW has shown them that there are plenty of people out there who'll lap up anything they dish out.
Not enough information can be taken from the way it was presented: "We are going to monetize features so that we get to make them," said Wilson. "We kind of have to."
That means that they could charge people to play Ladder or Hardcore modes. Or simply make your character nowhere near the top unless you purchase the best equipment (then it'd be a microtransaction). Either way, this is terrible news for the Diabloverse.

Wow, I cannot believe that you guys are actually ok with the game being released in multiple parts. Seems like something Blizzard would never have done. To be honest, this changes my perspectives on SC2 somewhat.

So you'd prefer if the game came out in 2011?

it is a bummer not having it all in one, but like i said DOW only had 1 campaign, if they can make them bigger and more epic or something, and if there isn't a huge gap in between releases then it should be sweet.

When are you getting a new PC? And why will you be wasting time with starcraft when you already own forged alliance?

I believe they said it would be at least a year between Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm, and that was considering they already have a head start on it, so it could be somewhat longer between parts 2 and 3.
Probably gonna be something like:
Summer 2009 - SC2 WoL
Fall 2009 - D3
Summer 2010 - SC2 HotS
Summer 2011 - SC2 LotV
