I had to check which ones I have at work but yeah I've got the CX-300 as well. I prefer them in silver though......

I reckon they're pretty good, block out plenty of backgound noise and don't let noise get out either. I use them in my office to listen to music off my laptop, my office mates have to tap me on my shoulder to get my attention and also say they can't hear anything coming from me. Nothing worse than hearing some other twats music, its always shite for some reason.

Especially if it's metal.

A little bit but to be honest not only do you get used to it within a week, but also once the music is playing it's negligible. It blocks out so much noise that you'll be listening to music at half the volume you are at currently and you will still hear it more clearly.

I ended up buying a pair of Denon AH-C551 because I love the Denon headphones I use when I spin. Also I hate the asymmetrical design of the CX300's. So far they sound great for what I paid ($50) good bass. The wires seem a lot flimsier than the e2c's and the earpieces aren't as sturdy and it's slightly heavy on the high's.

I presume that it may be easier for some to place their mp3 player in the side of the longer earbud and/or some people like to wrap the shorter earbud around the back of their head. What is the real reason?

Wrapping the longer wire round the back of the neck, stops the wires from swinging about in front of you (if you're running or something) and pulling at the earbud

I loved the design of the Shure e2c's above the ear, behind the neck fit, especially when running. Too bad they kinda suck.
