Because they lived in a less advanced time.

It might have some small effect, but I think more systemic changes to the way children are raised would be necessary to realize the kind of difference you seem to have in mind (i.e. the historical comparison.)

I think the fact that teens are penned off into a little world where they are around people the exact same age for the vast majority of the time and almost nothing they do (whether positive or negative) seems to have any real consequences is one reason they act so childish and irresponsible for so long.

Chris Rock dropped out of high school and he's a millionaire. I hope to some day have a child like Chris Rock, but not black.
