One of the few hopes I have for a genuinely scary horror movie to be made is Guillermo del Toro adaptation of Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness". Link. If that one's done right it has the potential to be massively awesome.
Oh, and also if David Lynch made this into a feature length movie:

sweet, looks like i'll be making a trip to the theater.

Gory movies in general don't seem to be scary. Saw: not scary at all.
Saw wasn't really meant to be a horror it was meant to be a thiller, or horror/thriller at least. If you didn't like saw then I suggest you may be a pansy.

Meh, I'm waiting for the Child's Play 1 remake (which is actually in development)

I never said I didn't like Saw...although I didn't, for completely different reasons. Although I agree as to the thriller/horror dynamic, it was horror more than anything else. Besides, how many horror movies do you know that don't have some element of thriller in them?
What was interesting about Saw was as to how fast it developed such an enthusiastic following.
By the time I saw Saw II in theaters, the audience was already cheering when the title kicked in.
Impressive, no doubt.

So is this the remake of the original Friday the 13th? I liked the remake of the original Halloween. I thought both were great (but liked the remake better).

It's a remake of the original, but it's going to be quite a departure seeing as they're going to actually have a Jason Voorhees as the villain.
So it's definitely going to be adding in developments that took place well beyond the first.

Okay, so this is the official trailer that's going to debut in theaters:
It's more or less the same, but does a better job of bringing it all together before it fully discloses the movie, and fortunately also leaves off with Jason running...very tasteful.
